My Brethren:
The months are rapidly passing for me this year, I can hardly believe that I am writing my sixth Trestleboard this year.
On our first Stated Meeting this month on June 12th our speaker will be Wor. Brother Edward Kemper Uhler, who was raised in Alexandria-Washington Lodge but then affiliated with Elmer Timberman Lodge No.54 in Annandale, becoming the Master of that Lodge in 1968. Wor. Bro. Uhler in keeping with our theme of Lodge history this year, will give us some interesting information on some of his ancestors who were active in this Lodge in the middle 1800's and will also outline some facts for us from Brockett's history of the Lodge written in 1875.
June 24th has been celebrated as St. John the Baptist Day in Masonic Lodges for many years. Our ancient minute books tell of this special occasion every year and of the members of the Lodge attending divine worship service as a group on the Sunday nearest this date. Our Grand Master has issued a proclamation requiring all Lodges in Virginia to make an effort to attend a church service in honor of one of the Patron Saints of Masonry, St. John the Baptist, on June 22nd of this year. Therefore, I request all members of Alexandria-Washington Lodge and their Families to join together at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House in the 300 Block of South Fairfax St. in Old Town Alexandria at 11 :00 AM on June 22nd in conformity with the proclamation issued by our Grand Master, to attend divine worship service together. This fine old church is mentioned year after year in our old minute books as a place of gathering of many occasions by members of our Lodge.
A program on St. John the Baptist will be presented by Wor. Bro. Clarence A. Dains at our Stated meeting on the 26th. Brother Cris has done a lot of research on our Patron Saints and I know that he will have some enlightening information for us on that evening. Brother Dains is a Past Master of John Blair Lodge No.187 and is the Designee for District Deputy Grand Master in District 1-A for next year.
Our annual Lodge family picnic will be held on Saturday June 28th this year at the Fort Hunt picnic grounds in Area "A", which is at the East end of the picnic ground and has a covered pavilion for a serving area. Fun and fellowship together from noon until dark with dinner being served at 2:30 PM. Pony rides for the children will begin at noon also.
Our District School this month will be held at John Blair Lodge No. 187 in the Scottish Rite Temple on Braddock Road. The Entered Apprentice Degree will be exemplified on this evening. Lecture instruction will also be offered for those who wish to brush up on their proficiency in this part of our Ritual.
On June 8th at 3:00 PM in our Lodge Room the DeMolay Legion of Honor and Cross of Honor will be conferred. On June 29th at 2:00 PM the Investiture of the Chevalier Degree will be conferred in our Lodge Room. Two of the members of our Chapter will be invested with this coveted award at this time. Please try to attend both of these important events connected with our DeMolay Chapter.
There will be a joint visitation of all Alexandria area Lodges at Andrew Jackson Lodge No.120 on June 19th at 7:30 PM. These meetings do much to further the friendship and Brotherhood between our Lodges and I encourage all of our members to attend this meeting and be recognized as an Alexandria-Washington Member.
On June 4th we will travel to Seat Pleasant Lodge No.218 in Maryland to confer the Master Mason's Degree on one of our candidates in our King Solomon's Costumes. This is the Lodge which presented us with the Rough and Perfect Ashlers which we have in the East of our Lodge Room. We will leave the Temple at 6:30 PM SHARP to open our Lodge at 8:00 PM. We will need some non-speaking help in the degree on this evening so please try to travel with us on the trip.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Donald M. Robey
Worshipful Master
