The joys of summer vacation may have come to an end but you can look forward to continued pleasure with your Lodge.
Our big event for the month of September is the long awaited visit by Liberty Lodge of Beverly, Massachusetts. The Brethren of Liberty Lodge visited us last in 1972 and we were their guests in 1974. These exchange visits have been a treasured custom of our Lodges for many years. The Brethren from Massachusetts will arrive on Friday night September 24th, and depart Sunday morning. During their stay in Alexandria they will be guests in our homes. Our Senior Warden, Brother John Ranck will be arranging housing. At present there are still a few of the visiting Brethren that require housing. If you can take part in housing a couple (or a single) please contact Brother Ranck. The Worshipful Master of Liberty Lodge, Brother Daniel Hall, invites you all to attend their Lodge when they will raise a candidate in our Lodge room, Saturday the 25th at 1:00 PM.
Our annual ladies night will be held on Friday night, October 15th at the Fort Myer Officers Club. This year we will have a social hour at 7:00 PM, a banquet at 8:30 PM, and dancing until midnight. It has been quite a while since our Lodge has held a banquet and dance such as this. I hope that all will be able to attend. Tickets are $10.00 and are available from any of the Officers of the Lodge.
Brethren, please remember the Masonic Home of Virginia with your gifts. Our aged, indigent Brethren and their widows need your help.
Sincerely and fraternally,
James B. Stone
Worshipful Master

September 14, 1826 - "The Worshipful Master gave a lecture and invited the members of this lodge at the request of the committee of arrangements in Washington to attend at the laying of a cornerstone of a new Masonic Lodge to be erected in Washington."
PLACES OF MEETING
The first place of meeting was on the second floor of a large three-atory frame building, known as the "Lamb Tavern", (later kept by Hilton and destroyed by fire in 1803) on which occasion the Lodge assembled on the 25th of February, 1783. This tavern was situated on the west Bide of Union street, between Prince and Duke streets, the Bite of which is now occupied by the boiler-making establishment of Petit & German, and is known as No. 55 South Union street. On this occasion there were present: Robert Young in the chair; Thomas Proctor, acting Senior Warden; Robert Adam, acting Junior Warden; John Allison, acting Senior Deacon; Peter Dow, acting Junior Deacon; Dr. Elisha Cullen Dick, acting Secretary.
Early in the year 1785, the Lodge secured rooms in John Wise's Tavern, a large brick building at the N.E. corner of Cameron and Fairfax streets, and now known as "Tennesson's Hotel and Restaurant;" but, in July of that year, it was deemed advisable to change its location Wise's Tavern being a "public resort for strangers and travelers, and not sufficiently secure from intrusion." In 1788, it secured rooms at William Page's, and later, in the same year, its meetings were held at Joseph Greenways. In 1790, it was better accomodated in the Chamber of the Common Council. This was a two-atory brick building, on the Market Square, at the south-west corner of Fairfax and Cameron Sts. The lower story of this building was subsequently occupied by Cleon Moore, and later by Alexander Moore, as the office of the Orphans Court and Register of Wills, and more recently as the Sun Engine House. (In 1872, this building was removed to accomodate the new market building extension.)
