Benjamin Dulany, Sr. of "Shuters Hill. " Fairfax County. Va. .was the son of Daniel Dulany, Jr. whose father emigrated to America from Ireland about four generations ago, and practiced law in Maryland for many years, with great distinction. The younger Daniel stood high at the Baltimore bar, where his opinions are quoted at the present day as high authority. His portrait now hangs in the chamber of the city court of Baltimore. Benjamin was probably born in the city of Baltimore. He married a Miss French, of Rose Hill, her fathers residence, Fairfax county, about four miles from Alexandria, and for many years resided at "Shuters Hill," an eminence overlooking the City of Alexandria, at its West end, where, it is believed, all his children were born. They were Benjamin, Daniel, John P., James, Bladen, William, Rebecca, Maria, Louisa, and one other.
Benjamin Jr. was married to a Miss Rozier, a daughter of a welthy English gentleman, who resided at "Notley Hall", nearly opposite to Alexandria, in Prince Georges County, Md. Rebecca married Commodore Tingey, of the U.S. Navy. Louisa married Richard DeButts. Maria, the youngest daughter, was married to William Herbert, Esq.
Benjamin Sr., died in the City of Baltimore, in 1816, and was buried at "Shuters Hill." Both he and Benjamin Jr. were members of this Lodge, the former in 1784 and the latter in 1806.
