FROM THE EAST

We have been informed that any donation to the Masonic Home of Virginia is fully tax deductible, but a check written to our lodge is not, unless it is endorsed by the lodge and the Home in turn endorses it before it is deposited to the Home's account. Therefore, it is requested all donations to the Home be made payable to the MASONIC HOME OF VIRGINIA, and mailed direct to the Home in the envelope placed in this Bulletin for that purpose, or give it to our Secretary, who will forward it for you. A computer record is being kept of all contributors to the Home and will be provided to the lodge in due time. Contributors of $100.00 or more will receive a Certificate of Membership in THE GRAND MASTER'S ONE HUNDRED CLUB. Wouldn't it be wonderful, if 100, of our over 700 members, would see fit to join this club.

We are pleased and delighted with the way the Brethren of our Lodge, Elmer Timberman Lodge and Kemper Lodge received and welcomed our 22 visiting Brethren from The Netherlands during April 15 through 26. The visit of these outstanding Masons to our country has done much to cement the ties of friendship and brotherhood around the world. For these Brethren, as well as many of our own Brethren, are world travelers and in due time, I am sure the warm fraternal relationships that now exist between these Lodges on both sides of the ocean, will do much to create a better understanding among mankind and nations.

We congratulate Wor. Clyde C. Lamond, Jr., Wor. A. Slater Lemond and Brother Robert S. Chamberland, Sr., on receiving their 50 year gold Masonic Pin and gold dues card at our open meeting on April 18. Rt. Wor. Donald M. Robey, our DDGM, and Wor. Edward Gondella, did an outstanding job in making these presentations. The refreshments served in the dining hall by the Stewards were also special and enjoyed by all.

The high lights in May were the Official Visit of Rt. Wor. Donald M. Robey, our DDGM, on May 10, our called meeting on May 12 in Commemoration of the dedication of the Memorial in 1932 and York Rite Night on May 24. These were all outstanding meetings with many visitors from this area, Richmond and as far away as Australia. On the 12th we initiated 2 E.A. Candidates, passed 1 F.C. and raised 3 M.M. On May 24, we had the pleasure of hearing Mt. Wor. Stewart W. Miner deliver an inspiring message on York Rite Masonry and witness Brother Emmett V. Johnston receive his 50 year gold Masonic pin and card.

This brings us to June which is another significant month in the history of our lodge in that we will celebrate the anniversary of St. John the Baptist this year on June 24 at Christ Church, which is on the same date, as the lodge's first celebration in 1783. The lodge minutes reflect the following account of the preparations for that event:

"The 24th jnst. being the anniversary of St. John the Baptist, it is unanimously agreed to walk in procession to dine at Mr. Lomax's. The Deacons are therefore requested to give him notice to provide dinner for 24 persons. Brothers Hunter, Allison, Ryan & Dick are appointed to make preparation for the procession."

It is our hope we will have as many Brethren in attendance on Sunday June 24, as our lodge did on its first St. John's day in 1783. Special pews have been reserved for us and our families by the Rector, Rev. Mark S. Anschuts. We should arrive in time to see this beautiful old historical church where George Washington worshipped and also in time to be in the pews reserved for us when the service starts at 10:30 A.M. George Washington first attended Alexandria Lodge No. 39, on June 24, 1784, which was the lodge's second observance of the anniversary of St. John the Baptist. It was on this occasion that Washington was made an honorary member of the lodge, which he retained until he became Master of Alexandria Lodge No. 22, under the Virginia Chapter.

Sincerely and fraternally,
Jason W. Snyder
Worshipful Master

    Brethren:

Wor. Brother Snyder has designated our stated meeting on June 14 as Warden's night. Bro. Booterbaugh and myself wish to thank Wor. Bro. Jason for this privilege and extend an invitation to each and every Brother to be with us on this occasion.

The program will be in honor of Flag Day and presented by Bro. Robert R. Ruths PM of Kemper Lodge.

I will do my best to keep the meeting interesting and short so that we may retire to the dining room for fellowship and good refreshments. Won't you please turn out on this night to welcome the visiting Wardens of the area and extend to them a warm Alexandria-Washington Lodge welcome.

    Fraternally yours,
    JAMES R. FREEMAN
    Senior Warden

REMEMBER OUR LODGE PICNIC IS ON JULY 8, AT FORT HUNT PARK, SECTION A. It was thought at the beginning of the year a charge of $5.00 per family would be necessary to help defray the expenses of the picnic, but after consulting with a number of our ladies it has been decided the admission fee per family should be a covered dish, consisting of either, a vegetable, salad, or dessert. The lodge will furnish the meat, bread, beverage, table service, etc. We are also, inviting the young men of Alexandria-Washington Chapter, Order of the DeMolay to help get set up and be in charge of the games for the day and the young ladies of Bethel No. 4, Order of Job's Daughters, to assist the Stewards in putting the food on the tables and serving. With all the good food that the ladies will prepare and the excellent help of these young people we should have a wonderful day of festivity and fun.
