Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

November 1979

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

The usual historical message in this space had to be cut considerably this month because a change to our By-Laws was submitted on September 27, to add $3.50 to our annual dues. This had not been in our plans for this year. The proposed change is as follows:

Article II (Page 3, By-Laws & Roster 1975)

IT IS PROPOSED THAT ARTICLE II THAT NOW READS:

Every member of this Lodge except The Treasurer, Secretary, Tiler and one Chaplain shall be charged by the Secretary with the sum of Fifteen dollars and fifty cents ($15.50) annual dues, plus the Grand Lodge Per Capita Tax, and any Grand Lodge assessment.

BE CHANGED TO READ:

Every member of this Lodge except The Treasurer, Secretary, Tiler and one Chaplain shall be charged by the Secretary with the sum of Nineteen dollars ($19.00) annual dues, plus the Grand Lodge Per Capita Tax, and any Grand Lodge assessment.

Submitted by,

James R. Freeman

This proposed change will be put to a ballot at our STATED MEETING on November 8. It is suggested that you study this change and come to lodge prepared to make the right decision when the ballot is spread without a lot of discourse when the subject is proposed. In other words, let's do our homework before we come to lodge.

Brother Archibald Lyon, our Senior Steward, and may I say an outstanding one, has purchased cloth and secured a seamstress to make candidates robes and apron for the lodge.

In William Mosely Brown's unpublished history of the lodge we find that on November 20, 1783, it was ordered "that every member furnish himself at his own expense with an apron to be worn at common monthly meetings, those proper (i.e., the special property) to the Lodge to be used on public occasions". In commemoration of this special occasion Brother Archie Lyon will officially present to the lodge 101 new aprons to commemorate this first purchase of aprons in November 1783. Brother Archie, we thank you for your outstanding work this year as Senior Steward.

Please remember our TABLE LODGE on November 17, at 6:30 P.M. Reservations are not necessary, but if you think you will be with us on this occasion we would appreciate it if you will let us know, so we can pass this on to the DeMolays who will be serving the dinner. The cost will be a donation, we hope of $3.00 or more, for the DeMolay Boys.

On November 1, we will have a joint meeting with Andrew Jackson Lodge No. 120, to commemorate the corner stone laying of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial on November 1, 1923. A joint dinner will be served by the Stewards at 6:30 P.M. for those who are on the Funeral Service Committees and/or those who plan on joining this special group of dedicated masons. It is requested that those on the Funeral Committee and also, those who desire to join this outstanding group of Masons, let one of the Masters of these two lodges know as soon as possible if you will be attending this dinner, so we can reserve a place for you. An outstanding program is planned by Rt. Wor. Donald M. Robey and Wor. William A. Brown for this special occasion and we hope to have an over flowing lodge room of Brethren who are interested in the history of this wonderful Memorial to George Washington. Please remember these special meetings in November and help us by your attendance to make November another outstanding month in this year's lodge history.

LADIES & FRIENDS ARE INVITED TO OUR PROGRAM AT 8:00 P.M. ON THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1st.

Sincerely and fraternally,
Jason W. Snyder
Worshipful Master
