FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

The normal vacation season is over, so it is time for the Lodge to return to its labor. You will notice the Trestleboard is full for the month of September. I hope you will turn out to lend your support to as many activities as your schedule permits.

On September 6 our Grand Master, Most Wor. Charles E. Wallace, will make his official visit to Masonic Districts 1-A, 1-B and 54. The event will be held at the Alexandria Scottish Rite Temple on Braddock Road. Lodge will open at 5:00 PM, there will be entertainment for the ladies while the men attend Lodge. Dinner will be served at 6:00 and the program is scheduled for 7:30. Tickets will be required for the dinner. As of this writing I have a few tickets unsold, please contact me if you need a ticket.

Plans have been made for the October visitation of Constitutional Lodge No. 294 of Beverley, England. It is my hope that all the Brethren and their families will become involved in the visitation. The enclosed letter will give you more details and also offers another way of involvement. Tickets for the combination Reception and Ladies Night to be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Bolling AF Base Officers' Club are now in the hands of the Lodge Officers for sale. Please make your plans and your purchases early, as the cut off date is Oct. 3!!

The first stated this month we will officially receive our DIW, Rt. Wor. Bro. Robey. Bro. Don has an interesting talk prepared for his official home-coming. We will also celebrate Masonic Birthdays at this meeting. Our second stated we will welcome Andrew Jackson Lodge No. 120 on their official visit. The program will be a continuation of the History of the beautiful Temple we meet in. Wor. Bro. Brown and Rt. Wor. Bro. Robey so successfully started this history last year that I feel it should be continued. The program is scheduled for 8: 15 and your families are invited to be with us. Bro. Dean Thomas will entertain the families while the men attend Lodge. Refreshments will be served after the program.

Sincerely and fraternally,
James R. Freeman

August 15, 1980

Dear Brethren of Alexandria-Washington Lodge 22, During October 14-20 this year, we will have the pleasure of hosting 49 Brethren and their Ladies from Constitutional Lodge 294 of Beverley, England, our Sister Lodge. These exchange visits began in 1972 when our Lodge made the first pilgrimage to Beverley. In 1974, you may remember, they returned the visit and again in 1977 our Lodge made a second visit to England. Our unwritten feeling is for a continuing visitation every three years, economics permitting.

This is one of the reasons I am writing to you. This year a number of our Lodge brothers are hosting our English friends in their homes for three days - to ease their costs; and to show them how Americans live. On our trips to England we have been treated royally. We want to reciprocate.

A number of our brethren, who cannot host a guest from England have expressed a desire to help financially in entertaining them. I am of the opinion that others may want to do the same. Any financial assistance will of course assist the Lodge in providing appropriate entertainment for our English Brethren and their Ladies.

I have therefore instructed our Secretary and Treasurer to establish an "England Visitation Fund" to receive contributions to assist the Lodge in providing appropriate accomodations etc. Should you like to participate, please send your checks to the Lodge Secretary, Earle W. Griffith, 1129 Arcturus Lane, Alexandria, Va. 22308. Contributions should be noted for "ENGLAND VISITATION". My thanks for your concern.

Sincerely and fraternally,

James R. Freeman
