Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

March 1982

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

On January 26, 1982 I sent each member of the Lodge a letter explaining the planned expansion for the facilities at the Masonic Home and asking for a contribution to the Grand Master's Campaign Fund Drive. I am pleased to report the campaign is off to a good start and donations have started to come in. As a result of the letter, $2,170 has been received. The Lodge also voted to donate $1,000 from the charity fund and present this to the Grand Master on his visit on February 15th. This coupled with another $3,400 which was donated last fall; brings the total to $6,570 as of this date. This is a very good start and I thank you for your generous and kind support of this worthy endeavor.

In these days of tight money, it is understandable that some of us cannot make a large lump-sum donation. For this reason; I have enclosed a pledge card in order to provide an optional method whereby every member of the Lodge can participate. The card is self-explanatory, so I won't go into detail. However, I do ask that you return it at an early date. This will allow the Grand Lodge a very good estimate for planning purposes.

The Secretary now has an adequate supply of the shovel lapel pins on hand. Every Brother (including those who pay by installments) who donates a total of at least $60 toward the Grand Master's Campaign Fund Drive is entitled to have one of these handsome pins. If any Brother has not received his pin, please contact the Secretary.

If every member of our 700-plus total membership were to do his part to help by donating a mere $60; our Lodge could amass over $42,000 ....THINK ABOUT IT!

At the stated meeting of Thursday, March 11, 1982 Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22 will receive Right Worshipful Werner Herman Morlock, District Deputy Grand Master for Masonic District lA of the Grand Lodge of Virginia. Brother Morlock will honor us by delivering an address entitled, "Yesterday - Today - Tomorrow".

At the stated meeting of Thursday, March 25, 1982 Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22 will celebrate the Masonic Birthdays for the month of March and conduct a Masonic Educational Program. The Educational Program will be delivered by Brother Lawrence M. Callahan, Senior Warden. I also call your attention to a proposed change to Article III of the By-Laws which is reproduced on the following page. Action shall be taken at this meeting regarding this important matter of legislation.

There will be meetings on March 4th, 15th, 18th and 29th which have been called for the purpose of work and instruction. These meetings are necessary to advance the candidates awaiting the degrees. I hope you will be able to come on these nights to lend your necessary assistance.

The visiting Lodges that will be with us on March 13th and March 27th have both informed me that they plan to do work in the Master Mason's Degree. If you've never observed work from the other Grand Jurisdictions; this is a good opportunity. I plan to be there. I hope you can join me.

On Saturday, March 2Oth the Alexandria Area Leadership Conference will be conducted at the Kenmore Intermediate School. Attendance is mandatory for the Officers in order for the Lodge to qualify for the James Noah Hillman Memorial Award. However, every member of the Lodge is welcome to attend and I urge you to do so.

For future planning; any Brother interested in participating in a trip to Philadelphia on May 1st and/or a trip to Massachusetts on May 28-31, please let me know at an early date. Space might be limited. The Officers will be given first preference. All others first-come, first-served.

Sincerely and fraternally,
Leo A. Sentiger, Jr.

Worshipful Master
