Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

May 1982

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

On May 1st this Lodge will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for the purpose of attending the Ladies Night celebration of William L. Elkins Lodge No. 646. All Brethren and their Ladies are most cordially invited to participate. This festive occasion will be held at the King of Prussia Holiday Inn at 6:46 PM on Saturday, May 1, 1982. Tickets are $20.00 per person. Please contact me if you plan to attend.

At the Stated Communication of Thursday, May 13, 1982 Alexandria-Washington Lodge will celebrate Wardens' Night. The guest speaker for this occasion will be Most Worshipful Edward Herman Cann, Past Grand Master of Masons in Virginia who is currently serving as Worshipful Master of Edward Herman Cann Daylight Lodge No. 1752.

On Sunday, May 16, 1982. between the hours of 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM, the Stewards will prepare and serve breakfast for all members, visitors, and their families. The purpose of this breakfast is to create an atmosphere of friendship and fellowship. The cost of the breakfast will be defrayed by your "free-will" donations.

On Monday, May 24th we will travel to John A. Lejeune Lodge No. 350 to attend District School. We will meet at the Memorial parking lot at 6:30 PM in order to carpool.

At the Stated Communication of Thursday, May 27, 1982 Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22 will receive the Brethren of Collington Lodge No. 230, Bowie, Maryland as they make a Fraternal Visit. On this same evening we will devote a portion of this Stated Communication in a special tribute to the Youth organizations supported by the Grand Lodge of Virginia. Therefore, we will close Lodge early and have a program for our youth. All members of the International Order of Job's Daughters. The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. and the International Order of DeMolay will be our special guests that evening. The program will be followed by an Ice Cream Social in the dining room.

Two-thirds of the numbered series of the Alexandria-Washington Lodge Bicentennial Commemorative Medals have already been reserved. They are still available to members of Alexandria-Washington Lodge. The time for ordering has been extended to June 30, but don't wait and miss out. You will never have another opportunity once these are gone. See or write the Secretary now and place your order. Unnumbered medals will also be available and may be ordered by anyone desiring these handsome souvenirs of 200 years of Freemasonry in Alexandria.

During Memorial Day weekend this Lodge will travel to Beverly Massachusetts for the purpose of a Fraternal Visit to Liberty Lodge, A.F.& A.M. All Brethren and their Ladies are most cordially invited to participate. Chartered bus transportation is being arranged for those desiring this mode. We will depart from the Memorial at 8:00 AM, Friday May 28th and return on May 31st. Food and refreshment will be placed aboard. Highlights of the trip will include a Master Masons Degree that our Lodge will perform in costume in the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts building on Saturday afternoon. Special activities are being arranged for the ladies while the men are attending Lodge. That same evening we will attend a special banquet that is being arranged by the Brethren of Liberty Lodge. Firm reservations are now being taken. Cost is $50 per person and includes round trip bus transportation, lunch and refreshments both ways. Assure your seat by giving your check, made out to the Lodge, to Brother Archie Lyon. Reservations will be made only for available seats. First-come, first-served.

The Secretary has given me a list of 44 Brethren who have not yet paid their 1981 dues. These individuals represent not only a loss of funds from the operating capital; but also an increased expenditure in the way of postage, printing, and unnecessary manhours. This can be avoided if you will help by doing your part. Inflation has struck all of us, including the Lodge. Thus far we have been able to resist the pressures, that have been caused by inflation, to have an increase in dues. But no one is certain what tomorrow will bring. Please won't you do your part? Check you dues card and make sure that you are current on the Secretary's books.

We shall have two visiting Lodges using the Alexandria-Washington Lodge Room on Saturday, May 1st and another on Saturday, May 15th. Please note the designs on the Treastleboard for the Lodge names, jurisdictions, and meeting times. As the Lodge Officers will be in Philadelphia on the Ist of May; Right Worshipful Godfrey Pierpoint Runaldue has most graciously offered to act as my representative and to welcome the two Lodges on that date. Any Brother desiring to observe the work of other Grand Jurisdictions should take advantage of these opportunities.

In order to do a little advance planning please mark the important dates of June 2nd, 20th and 27th on your calendar. On Wednesday, June 2nd this Lodge will make a Fraternal Visit to our very good friends at Seat Pleasant Lodge No. 218 located in District Heights Maryland. On Sunday, June 20th the annual Lodge picnic will be held at Fort Hunt Park. And on the morning of Sunday, June 27th, Alexandria-Washington Lodge will observe the Feast of Saint John the Baptist by attending divine worship service at the 11:00 AM service at Christ Church. This act of corporate worship is to commemorate our Patron Saint John the Baptist in grateful remembrance of the zeal and truth so richly demonstrated in the life of that Saint.

On December 14, 1982 the Alexandria-Washington DeMolay Chapter will celebrate the beginning of the 20th year of DeMolay Service to the community. I recently sent the sincerest congratulations of Alexandria-Washington Lodge to the newly installed Master Councilor, Brother Timothy G. Paterson. I asked him to inform his membership that we, the sponsoring body, stand behind the Chapter and look forward to many years of cooperation. We both bear the name of a Great American and I asked him to be constantly reminded of the need to preserve those principles by which George Washington lived.

Sincerely and fraternally,
Leo A. Sentiger, Jr.
