Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

June 1983

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Brother Carl Alfred Ruthstrom as Assistant Treasurer of our lodge. Brother Carl was raised in AW22 on the 20th of June 1977. He has been a faithful supporter and is a much needed addition to the splendid corp or officers.

I would ask that you take a gander at the workload for June, "Brotherhood Month", especially the official visit of our Most Worshipful Grand Master to John Blair Lodge on the 15th.

Our first STATED will be one which you will not want to miss as we will celebrate Shrine night. We will welcome our fellow Nobles of KENA Temple and our Illustrious Potentate and Brother Gordon Thomson. Brother Gordon was Raised in AW22 on the 11th of May 1944, and continues to be a staunch Blue Lodge supporter. Wear your FEZ!

The Brotherhood Ball on the 25th at the KENA Mosque offers each of us the opportunity to support a very worthy cause and have a good time in the process. The net profits from this affair will be given to the Grand Lodge of Virginia to assist during this year of financial hardship. As this is short notice, please contact me or any other officer to make your reservations. I expect each of you to support this endeavor. AW22 should sell at least 10 tables at $8 a head.

My Brethren, the first really big celebration of our bicentennial year will take place on the 18th, when the spring ceremonial of KENA Temple Shrine will be dedicated to the 200th birthday of Alexandria-Washington Lodge. As a Shriner, I can assure you that this will be a high honor as well as the highlight of the year 1983. There is still time for those who are eligible to get their petition in to KENA. Contact me or the Lodge Secretary for more information, we will be happy to assist.

Many of our Brethren will be rlying off to England on the 28th for a visit with our friends in Beverly, England. We wish them a safe journey, and send our fondest regards to the English Brothers.

If you have not visited with one or our visiting lodges, why not?? These lodges travel a great distance just to hold a communication in this historic lodge - YOUR lodge. Won't you please travel a short distance to make them welcome?? I am asked quite often by visiting Masters, where our members are. How would you answer them???

At our STATED communication on the 23rd, Worshipful Harold R. Cumbee will be our speaker. As you know, he is one of the most knowledgeable, and interesting speakers around these parts.

Some of you still have not ponied up your dues for 1982. At this time, approximately 15% of our members are not paid up.

God Bless You,

L. M. Callahan, W.M.
