There are two periods of relief in the life of a Worshipful Master. The first occurs when he is installed and the second is when his successor is installed. In the first instance as the incoming Master, he can now put into practice those plans and ideas which have been accumulating in his head while serving as a Warden. This syndrome is called "Wardenitis" and is usually cured two months after installation when the full realization of the enormous authority, responsiblity and demands of the office begin to come into focus more realistically. In the second instance as the outgoing Master, the relief comes not in the fact that the year has ended; but because he now has a better understanding of his lodge in general and Masonry in particular, and is ready and better prepared to assist the incoming Master (if asked) in strengthening the weaknesses which he has experienced first hand.
Please note that the election of Officers will be held on WEDNESDAY the 21st and NOT on the 4th Thursday of the month. The reason for the change is because the first election of Officers of our lodge was held on the 21st of December 1783.
If there is one single event of this year which is of great importance to me, it is the Christmas "party" at 2:00PM, December 17th in the auditorium of the Memorial. This will be a simple affair with carol singing (we will have song sheets but feel free to bring your own song book), Santa Claus will be there, and we will have some refreshments. We would like for you to bring along a dozen or so of cookies. So why not gather up your family, friends, children, grandchildren; or any body elses children or grandchldren and bring them along. Our resident organist, Dr. Dean Thomas and the KENA Shrine band will provide the traditional and inspiring music for the program. Come get in the spirit!!
On the 27th of December at 7:30PM the Officers for 1984 will be installed in the auditorium of the Memorial. This will be an open installation and you are encouraged to come and bring your family and friends. Refreshments will be served following the installation.
My sincere and eternal thanks to the Officers who have been so willing to give of their time and patience throughout the year. Thank you Archie, John, Bob Swiger, Godfrey, Wayne, Bob Pitner, Tom, Dean, Ryon, Maynard, Jack, and Ed Higbee. Also to our newly raised Master Masons who have been so willing to learn and participate. A special thanks to tlJe memorial staff, especially JoAnn Guthrie who has been of tremendous help. And to a faithful visiting lodge "co-host" Brother Hercules, thank you Herc. A special tip of the top hat to my friend and coach PM Harold Cumbee whose time, patience and perserverance has accomplished; if not all things, at least a great deal.
To the Lodge investigating committee; which is the first impression a petioner has of Masonry, each of us is indebted to Brothers Bill Long, Sr., Ed Irby, and Bill Long, Jr. Thanks to Wardell for his attention to our widows. Also to Dan Clark and PM leo Sentiger for their efforts on behalf of our youth.
And to the Past Masters who have been so willing to serve their lodge whenever asked to do so. The list is endless.
And finally to our wives who have made many. many sacrifices to permit us to transmit unimpaired. the tenets of our institution. Thanks ladies we love you.
And finally finally. this thought:
I marvel at the ways of God
For time and time again
I see him paint such lovely clouds
above such awkward men. (E.B. White)

L. M. Callahan, W.M.

Many of you have asked for the words of our closing hymn, Blest be the tie that binds.
Blest be the tie that binds our hearts in Jesus love; the fellowship of Christian minds is like to that above.
Before our Fathers throne we pour united prayers; our fears, our hopes, our aims are one; our comforts and our cares.
We share our mutual woes, our mutual burdens bear; and often for each other flows the sympathizing care.
When we at death must part, not like the worlds, our pain; but one in Christ, and one in heart, we part to meet again.
From sorrow toil and pain, and sin, we shall be free; and per fect love and friendship reign throughout eternity.
