Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

February 1984

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

How good it is for brothers to gather together in fraternal fellowship! We are off to an auspicious beginning for 1984. The installation was well attended and well supported by members and friends of A-W 22. The Lodge was well represented at the 48th Annual Masonic Services at First Christian Church on Sunday, January 8. Ill. Brother David Kruger brought an outstanding message on The Spirit of Love. At our first stated communication on January 12, we had a fine attendance of both members and visitors. RW Brother Don Robey brought us a fine rededication message. Five petitions were read and/or acted upon for initiation or affiliation. We've a busy time ahead. Come and be a part of the action as your Lodge enters into its Third Century of Masonic service in Alexandria.

Looking into February, the calendar, as you will note, is full and every member within cabletow's length will want to have a part. Look over the schedule carefully and mark the dates in your personal calendar. The Washington's Birthday events on February 20 are especially noteworthy and, except for the tiled Lodge session itself, are open to family and friends. Tickets for the dinner (at $5.) are in the hands of each of the officers. Buy yours early to be assured of a place. Call the Secretary or myself if you wish some set aside. The program in the auditorium is open to all. Come and do honor to the memory of our distinguished Past Worshipful Master, George Washington.

On the Thursday following, February 23, we will receive Most Worshipful Brother Ralph Wimmer, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, who is coming to us directly from the Grand Masters' Association annual meeting in Seattle. Lodge will be preceeded by a "Masonic family" dinner for which tickets will be required. We need to know how many to prepare for, so get your tickets early. Any Master Mason is welcome. See the Secretary or any Lodge officer.

As we look ahead into March, I urge that each one ask his wife to mark well the date of March 22nd in her calendar. On that date, Lodge will be brief. We shall then invite in our ladies for a special program to honor our wives and widows to whom we owe so much. The program and entertainment will be followed by a period of fellowship and refreshment in the dining room. Special honor will be given to those celebrating their golden or silver anniversaries in 1984 (or earlier).

There's more to come. Join the action in Alexandria-Washington Lodge in this year of 1984.

Fraternally,

Archibald W. Lyon
Worshipful Master

Thought of the month:      "Being persuaded that a just application of the principles on which the Masonic Fraternity is founded must be productive of private virtue and public prosperity. I shall always be happy to advance the interests of the Society, and to be considered by them as a deserving brother." (Extract from a letter written by W Bro George Washington in 1790 to King David's Lodge in Newport, Rhode Island.)
