Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

April 1984

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

Special thanks for the support you have given me this year as our Lodge enters into its Third Century of Masonic Service in Alexandria. We've had some excellent progrsms and more are coming. Each one bring one. A warm welcome awaits.

The ill-timed wintry storm on the 8th of March played havoc with our plans for that evening. Our District Deputy was unable to come, so his official reception by Alexandria-Washington Lodge has been rescheduled for Monday, April 9. I hope that you will make a special effort to come.

At our first Stated on April 12 we will honor Masonic Birthdays for both March and April. So if you missed yours in March, come on the twelfth and all will be forgiven. Also, on this evening we will hold the first of a series of evenings honoring various of the affiliated bodies - this will be York Rite Night. Don't miss it.

At our second Stated on the 26th we will open in the Replica Room in recognition of the receipt of our Virginia Charter on the 28th day of April, 1788. After a brief commemorative program, we will recess and reopen in our regular Lodge Room and recognize our Shrine brethren from Kena and other Temples. Bring your fez to wear during the program.

On Friday, April 27th an event of major significance will take place when Alexandria-Washington Lodge, by dispensation, will dedicate the new Anne Pamela Cunningham Library and Research Building at Mount Vernon with appropriate Masonic ceremony. Brethren are requested to assemble at 3:30 o'clock inside the building, in the Library to form the procession. Your families are welcome.

Looking ahead to May - The first weekend marks our annual visit to Elkins Lodge No. 646 for their Ladies' Night - again at the Holiday Inn, King of Prussia. Please let the Secretary or myself know if you plan to go. The tenth of May will be Transportation Night - a special program you'll not want to miss. We will be joined by a delegation from Transportation Lodge of Newport News. More later. Wardens' Night comes on the 24th. And during the following weekend we'll be hosting the members and wives of Liberty Lodge from Beverly, Massachussets on our biennial exchange of visits. You'll be contacted concerning your role in the activities. On Saturday afternoon, the 26th, they will conduct a Fellowcraft degree Massachussets style. Come and join in this special event.

And now, a special notice. The forthcoming April issue of the Masonic Herald is the last one you will get unless you subscribe at three dollars a year (6 issues). Send in the subscription coupon from the February or April issue, with your check, to continue receipt of this publication.

Mark the dates listed on the next page well in your calendar. Your participation will add a dimension to each that only you can supply.

Fraternally,

Archibald W. Lyon
Worshipful Master

A thought for April:      "They hadn't any fine regalia, Their lodges were old and bare; But they knew their ancient landmarks, and they kept them to a hair." -Kipling.
