This trestleboard is for two months, July and August, so please take special notice. We have had some fine programs during the first half of the year. More are to come. The Flag Day program presented by the National Sojourners at our first stated in June was outstanding. My special thanks to those who participated.
Our first stated in July (the 12th) is Armed Forces Night. Members of the Armed Forces, active, reserve or retired, are encouraged to wear their uniforms. Our speaker will bring us a presentation on facets of our military readiness today.
Most Worshipful Brother Ralph Julian Wimmer will make his official visit to Masonic District 1A on Tuesday, July 17th. Every member of Alexandria-Washington within a cable-tow's length of Alexandria is urged to be present. Wives and widows are invited. Lodge will open at 5:30 pm at the Scottish Rite Temple, 1430 West Braddock Road. The ladies will assemble in the auditorium and be entertained during the very brief lodge session. The main program of the evening will follow. We will then adjourn to the dining room for fellowship and refreshment.
The second stated for July, on the 26th, is Founders Night, in honor and support of the Masonic Home of Virginia. We plan to receive W Brother Charles O. Franck, Jr., Administrator of the home, who will bring a program appropriate. To further our interest in and support of the home, there will be a family outing on Saturday July 28th. The bus (or buses) will leave the Memorial at ten o'clock and return by five. Activity at the home will include luncheon, entertainment and tour, to include the new addition now completed. Let us show our support and enjoy a day of fellowship together. Let Godfrey or myself know if you will join us.
Our meeting for August 9 will be brief so that we can join our families for a watermelon feast and fellowship on the grounds.
The annual Grand Lodge School of Instruction at VPI, Blacksburg, will be conducted August 12-15. The Lodge will underwrite lodging for all attendees. Wives and families are included. Let the Secretary know as soon as you can so that we might arrange proper reservations.
Saturday, August 18th, is the date of the annual Blue Lodge Recognition Night sponsored by the Alexandria Bodies of the Scottish Rite. The program will begin at 5:00 pm with dinner for which tickets are required due to limitation of space. Lodge will open at 6:30 in the auditorium to which all Master Masons are welcome. Climaxing the evening will be presentation of the play, "The Traitor".
There will be no called communication of Alexandria-Washington Lodge in July. There will be one in August - see the calendar. No visiting Lodges are scheduled for either July or August.
Enjoy the summer, Brethren. Support your Lodge!
Fraternally,

Archibald W. Lyon
Worshipful Master
