Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

December 1984

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

How quickly flow the sands of time through the hour glass of the Masonic year! It seems but a few weeks ago that you elected me to govern your Lodge for the ensuing year, and now it is time for me to pass that duty and honor to my successor. It is with great pride, as well as with much humility, that I have occupied the honored station in the East. I had laid out great plans and set goals. Thanks to your support, most have been accomplished, others have fallen short, but we tried.

I have been aided by a fine team of officers to each of whom I give grateful thanks. Also, my gratitude to those who served on committees, or showed their support merely by attendance at stated and called communications. It takes the united support of all.

My appreciation goes also to our ladies who have, in so many ways, overt and covert, shown their support of our principles and our activities. God bless them all!

I call your attention to the Trestleboard for the month ahead. Each meeting is of special importance and merits your attendance. Note that families are especially invited to three events: the wreath laying on December 14th, the Christmas patty on the 15th and Installation on the 27th. Come, participate and enjoy your Masonry in action!

Fraternally,

Archibald W. Lyon
Worshipful Master

We meet upon the Level and we part upon the Square;
What words of precious meaning these words Masonic are!
Come, let us contemplate them! they are worthy of a thought;
In the very walls of Masonry the sentiment is wrought.

We meet upon the Level, through from every station come,
The rich man from his palace and the poor man from his home;
For the rich must leave his wealth and state outside the Mason's door,
And the poor man finds his best respect upon the Checkered Floor.

We act upon the Plumb - 'tis the orders of our Guide -
We walk upright in virtue's way and lean to neither side;
Th' All-Seeing Eye that reads our hearts doth bear us witness true,
That we still try to honor God and give each man his due.

We part upon the Square, for the world must have its due;
We mingle with the multitude, a faithful band and true;
But, the influence of our gatherings in memory is green
And we long upon the Level to renew the happy scene.
