Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

January 1985

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

I wish to thank each of you and your families who attended the installation of officers and my appreciation is extended to the installing officers. Further, I and the officers for 1985 invite each of you to become active once again in your lodge. We have some very definite needs that maybe you could perform. If you have some extra time and wish to help, please let me know. My desire for the year is to have each of you participate in our lodge.

January's trestleboard contains two excellent speakers: RW Walter Scott Downs on Jan. 10th will have rededication to our masonic teachings as his theme and Bro Jack Riddell on Jan. 24th will present your duty and responsibility when you sign a petition. Bring a brother who you have signed for or bring those who signed for you.

The Secretary has asked if anyone knows the current address of these brothers to please notify us.

Ernest V. Tate

Seminole, Florida 33543
Sidney I. Weatherford

Springfield, Virginia 22150

The Secretary and I also would like to remind everyone to check their dues card. Is it current?

Enclosed with this month's trestleboard is a copy of the Master's plan for 1985. Mark these dates on your calendar and if you have any suggestions, please let us know. Also printed in the trestleboard is a resolution for the lodge's consideration on the first stated.

One final opening comment about February. On Feb. 18th we will have the wreath laying at Mount Vernon. On Feb. 22nd we will have the George Washington stated meeting, the Grand Master's Official Visit, dinner and a program of entertainment by the British Embassy Players. Brethren and ladies be sure to tell someone (and we know who) that tickets will be available in January from the officers.

With best wishes, I am

Fraternally,

John M. Nicholson, Jr.
Worshipful Master

RESOLUTION TO BE CONSIDERED

WHEREAS; The unstable investment market over the past several years has resulted in changes to the Lodge's investment program with the opening of many new accounts in various financial institutions resulting in a complicated and complex situation;

WHEREAS; Changes in our Treasurer and the illness of our Secretary has brought out the undue burden placed upon them to handle the opening of new accounts, the withdrawal of interest for re-investment, the handling of interest checks for re-investment, the sale and or purchase of stock, etc., and has resulted in some misunderstanding with a loss of income and improper deposit of funds;

THEREFORE; To relieve the Secretary and Treasurer of this undue burden and to place full responsibility upon the Trustees to handle their investments completely the Trustees proposed that the 4th paragraph of Standing Resolution No.4 - TRUSTEES be changed and the following underscored statement added.

"It shall be the duty of the Trustees to invest such funds as are made available by the lodge; to re-invest such funds as are available from the expiration of investments and from the return therefrom. The Trustees are authorized to place such investment funds in reputable financial institutions for the purchase of Stocks, Bonds, Certificates of Deposit, Money Market Accounts, etc. as they may determine by majority vote of the five trustees. All investment accounts shall be opened in the name of ALEXANDRIA-WASHINGTON LODGE NO. 22 AF & AM with all five trustees being named as signers thereon, requiring any two of the five must be co-signers for any approved withdrawals or changes. Checks for any withdrawals shall be made payable to ALEXANDRIA-WASHINGTON LODGE NO. 22 AF & AM or to the financial institution where the funds shall be re-invested. A complete written detailed report of each transaction shall be made to the Lodge at the next stated communication, recorded in the minutes of the Lodge and in the Lodge's financial books. Earned interest and dividends shall also be reported by the Trustees to the Secretary and Treasurer for recording in their respective books."

The last part of paragraph 4 then becomes paragraph 5.
