FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

The journey to the East has been one filled with the rewards of friendship and brotherhood. It is a journey that would not have been possible without the assistance of the brethren and officers of our lodge. I thank you for that support and most earnestly request that you continue to provide it in the twelve months ahead. I also thank the Installation Team for their outstanding performance. You have created a wonderful memory for the officers of 1986.

Enclosed with this trestleboard is the Master's Plan for 1986. Please give these events high priority in your personal plans for the coming year. I know we share great pride of membership in Alexandria-Washington Lodge. Demonstrate that pride by your frequent attendance. Examine the enclosed schedule and if you have any suggestions or contributions for the good of Free Masonry contact me or one of the officers.

For the year of 1986 I have adopted as a theme, "FREE MASONRY A FOUNDATION FOR THE FUTURE". While some look with gloom and foreboding on the future of Masonry, I have no doubts. Our Ancient Craft has a well proven ability to prosper and survive. In a changing world, innovation is essential, however, let us be reluctant to change that which is proven and let us continue to build on the firm foundation of the constitutions of Masonry.

Our own Right Worshipful Brother Donald Maynard Robey, Grand Senior Warden, will be with us on January 9th, our first stated to bring us a rededication message. Join us for the occasion and enjoy the company of this fine mason and excellent speaker. For the second stated on January 23th, we will consider Grand Lodge resolutions. Be with us that we may share your thoughts. On January 26th attend the 50th annual Masonic church service at First Christian Church. Most Worshipful John Boyd Obenchain, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia will be the speaker. Brethren, this is a most appropriate way to begin the year. A lodge school and two called communications are scheduled for the initiation and advancement of new brothers. These may well be the most important nights in the masonic lives of the candidates. We need you with us if we are to make the impression that induces candidates to become active members of our lodge.

The Alexandria-Washington Chapter of DeMolay has a critical need for members and advisors. Please contact myself or Alton L. Miller, Jr., (960-3723) for details on how you may assist in preserving this link to our future.

Finally brethren, remember the sick and the widows. Your phone calls, visits and cards are greatly appreciated. Remember them also in your prayers.

My thanks and best wishes to each of you.

Fraternally,

Wayne L. Gilbert
Worshipful Master
