Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

February 1986

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

The activities and fellowship we enjoyed in our lodge in January afforded an auspicious beginning for 1986. At the first stated, Right Worshipful Brother Donald M. Robey, delivered an inspiring message of faith in the future of Free Masonry for the Rededication Program and at the second stated the brethren gave their consideration to the forthcoming business of the Grand Lodge. For the called communications the Lodge had the good fortune to continue to be busy with degree work. Five initiations were scheduled for January. You will also be pleased to know that our Lodge was well represented at the annual Masonic Service at First Christian Church on Sunday, January 26th.

The calendar for February contains events of particular significance for Alexandria-Washington Lodge. On the first stated, February IJth, we will welcome home Right Worshipful Odie R. Howell, Jr., DDGM for Masonic District 1A. On February 22nd, we will honor the memory of that distinguished Past Master, George Washington and receive Most Worshipful Brother Oscar Tate, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, please make note of the events scheduled for this day in your personal calendars. With the exception of the tiled Lodge, they are open to family and friends. Tickets for the dinner (at $8.00) are available from the Lodge officers. The Lodge Secretary, Right Worshipful Godfrey P. Runaldue, or myself will be pleased to accept your reservations. Sponsors and mentors, these events are an excellent opportunity for new brethren to attend and participate in the celebration of the history and traditions of Free Masonry in Alexandria-Washington Lodge.

I also ask that you remember those ladies and brethren who may wish to attend but require your kind offices in obtaining transportation. If you can help please contact Wardell Thomas (548-6682) or myself.

In his inspiring presentation to the Lodge at the first stated, Right Worshipful Brother Robey brought us the message that this is a time of renewed opportunity for Free Masonry. I believe that the increased number of candidates receiving the degrees of Free Masonry in our lodge supports these convictions of our Grand Senior Warden. The friends and sponsors of these new masons must be indeed proud at this new addition to the body of our Ctaft. I am however, concerned at the lack of attendance when we conduct the work designed to make these brethren proud members of our fraternity. Brethren, you are the the Lodge. You are the windows through which these candidates will view Free Masonry. Be there to extend your hand.

Fraternally,

Wayne L. Gilbert
Worshipful Master
