Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

September 1986

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

Once more I call you attention to the approach of October and the visit in that month of the brethren and ladies of Constitutional Lodge #294, Beverly, England. The planning for these visitations was initiated during a 1970 trip of A-W #22 to Massachusetts. In 1972 A-W #22 and Liberty Lodge joined in making the first visit to England. In 1974 Constitutional Lodge made the first visit to the USA. From that time to the present, at three year intervals, these alternating visitations have continued. Next month Constitutional Lodge will make it's third fraternal visitation to A-W #22. After visiting our brethren of Liberty Lodge, Beverely Massachusetts, they will arrive in Alexandria the morning of 10/14/86. Additional details and schedules will be provided in the October Trestleboard. The very general information provided herein may assist you in your preliminary planning and scheduling of time. On the 14th after meeting the group at National Airport we will welcome them with a reception in a hospitality room at Days Inn, Crystal City. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we will arrange tours and visits to locations of interest in Northern Virginia, Maryland, and the District, with a called communication and work in the Fellowcraft Degree Thursday evening. On Friday our visitors will leave the motel to be with their hosts. On Saturday Night we will celebrate Ladies Night with our visitors from England and the brethren and ladies of Elkins Lodge #646, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. On Monday our guests will leave their hosts to enjoy the free time they have requested for exploring Virginia.

We are expecting about 26 visitors from England and the help of all members and their ladies is urgently requested to act as hosts and assist in making arrangements for entertainment and transportation. Contact Odie Howell, 360-3126, John Ranck, Sr., 660-6275, or myself 941-7410. Remember this visitation occurs only once in six years. Your early response is essential to your lodge if we are to make it a truly memorable occasion.

On the first stated in September we will honor the past masters of Alexandria-Washington Lodge and I hope you will all make a special effort to be present on this occasion. Our stewards are planning a ham dinner which will be served at 6:30 pm prior to lodge. Please remind the EA's and FC's you have coached or sponsored that they are most welcome to attend the dinner.

On the second stated we will recognize the appendant bodies who do so much for our great fraternity and I request all our members to make an effort to ensure that our friends in these organizations know that they will be warmly welcomed. Please note that we will call from labor to refreshment on this occasion and encourage both family and guests to attend.

Finally I wish to thank all of those young MM's for doing so much to support their lodge with work in DeMolay, coaching, degrees, and all our activities. It is good to know the future of our lodge will be in capable hands.

Fraternally,

Wayne L. Gilbert
Worshipful Master
