Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

May 1987

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

Many thanks are due Rt. Wor. Odie Howell for giving us at our last meeting a most interesting and informative talk about Lodge visitations and programs. Thanks also to Wor. Bro. Bob Swiger and Wor. Bro. John Ranck for their comments on our upcoming visits to Liberty Lodge, Beverley, Mass., on Sept. 11-14 and Wm. L. Elkins Lodge, Philadelphia, Penn., on May 2.

The visit to Elkins lodge for their annual Ladies Night is in the final planning stage. We will be well represented at this affair this year. Although our trip to Beverley is a few months off, it is not too early to make plans to attend. Liberty Lodge is getting ready to receive us. Their latest Trestleboard has a headline, "The Virginians are Coming." Let us not disappoint them.

The first stated meeting in May is designated Warden's Night. Bro. Bill Jones, Senior Warden, and Bro. Fred Andersen, Junior Warden, have arranged for Rt. Wor. Bro. Glover Hunter Jones, Jr., Deputy Grand Master, to be the guest speaker. We should have a large turnout to welcome this outstanding Mason to our lodge and to support our Wardens for the fine job they are doing.

At our second stated meeting we will elect a Senior Deacon to replace Bro. David Keckler who is leaving the area. We will also elect a Trustee and a member of the Archives Committee to fill out the terms vacated due to the death of our late Brother and Senior Past Master, Angus Slater Lamond.

We wish to thank the members of Bethel No. 22, I.O.J.D., for their meeting honoring Master Masons. Several of our members and their families were there to enjoy a fine program and delicious refreshments. It was also a pleasure to attend the installation ceremony of Alexandria-Washington Chapter, International Order of Demolay. We salute both groups of fine young people.

Fraternally,

Robert N. Pitner
Worshipful Master

Although George Washington presided over the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia from May until September, 1787, he spoke out only once at the end of the months of consideration, disagreement, and final culmination of the work on the document. It is agreed by historians that Washington's presence awed the delegates into finalization of "the most wonderful work ever struck of at a given time by the brain and purpose of man." #
