Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

July / August 1987

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

Summer has arrived and with it a number of exciting programs and activities. Our St. John's Day commemoration in a joint meeting with Archer Bailey Gay #275 was highly successful with over 100 members and visitors in attendance. Many thanks to those who helped make this joint meeting one to remember.

Our first program in July is one that will bring forth thoughts of patriotism. Our speaker, Mr. Lowell Hammer, will describe vividly the Valley Forge encampment during the winter of 1777-1778. Mr. Hammer's family heritage stems from deep roots in the Valley Forge area. The Lodge will be open for the address at 8:00 p.m. Families and friends are cordially invited to attend. Refreshments will be served after the meeting.

In our second Stated Meeting, July, Wor. Bro. Harold Cumbee, Lodge Archivist, and Wor. Bro. John Riddell, Custodian of the Lodge Archives, will show many items from the Archives in the Lodge room. These items are normally stored and unavailable for display.

A major activity for the Lodge, August 9-12, is the Southwestern Masonic School at V.P.I., Blacksburg. This school offers instruction in all Blue Lodge degrees. Masons and families are provided rooms in the dormitories. Wor. Bro. Jim Stone, Chairman, and Bro. Vic Peren serve as a committee to provide information about the school. Contact one of them for details.

Hearty congratulations are extended to Wor. Bro. Leo Sentiger on being presented the Legion of Honor at the Demolay Investiture for Legion of Honors and Chevaliers. It is an honor richly deserved by Wor. Bro. Leo.

Fraternally,

Robert N. Pitner
Worshipful Master
