Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

June 1989

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

The Lodge Picnic on the 4th will be held at the same location at Cameron Station as it has been the past several years. Please bring your friends. They are more than welcome.

The first Stated Communication has been moved from from the second Thursday of the month to the third Thursday by dispensation. This was done in order to hold a joint meeting with Andrew Jackson Lodge. They will provide the program but it will be held in our Lodge Room.

You were notified in the May Trestleboard that the Lodge would ballot on nominees for the District Deputy Grand Master and Alternate on June 8. Because of the joint meeting, this date has been changed to June 22. There are no changes to the procedure stated. However, it should be noted that the new procedure does not supersede the traditional rotation system and I am certain that Skidmore Daylight Lodge will recommend a worthy candidate for each office.

As noted, the Official Visit of the Grand Master to Masonic Districts 1A and 1B will be held at the Scottish Rite Temple. There will be entertainment for the ladies during Lodge. Dinner will be served at 6:45pm. At 8:00 pm, the Grand Master will speak. to be followed by entertainment. Tickets for the dinner may be obtained from the Secretary or me. The cost is ten dollars.

The Secretary requests that timely change-of-address notices be submitted when appropriate. This will ensure your receiving the Trestleboard and other Lodge mailings without interruption and will save the Lodge a fair amount of money in return postage.

Fraternally,
Frederic W. Andersen
Worshipful Master

HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHT - 200 Years Ago

June 24, 1789 - The lodge celebrated St. John's day with dinner at John Wise's Tavern, followed by a charity sermon by the Rev. Bryan Fairfax (Lord Fairfax). The contributions raised for the poor were placed in the hands of the Rev. Fairfax for distribution. That evening, a ball was held and it was announced "that the music would cease at two o'clock in the morning".
