Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

November 1989

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

At our only Stated Communication this month, we will try again for Family Night. After conducting only necessary business, we will close and join our families in the Dining Room. While we are enjoying refreshments, Wor. Brother John Ranck will present us with a video report on the July Trip to England. He has requested that I ask the brethren who have photographs of the trip which they may care to share with the Lodge, to please bring them to this meeting.

Please support all degree work and schools this month as we have a very active month for degree work. We are also still in need of help with the catechism coaching. If any brother would be willing to help by taking a candidate to coach, please contact the Junior Deacon and let him know so the appropriate contacts can be made.

Fraternally,
Frederic W. Andersen
Worshipful Master

HISTORICAL HIGHLIGHT - 200 Years Ago

November 26, 1789 - The members of the Lodge, taking into consideration the importance of economy, and regretting the expense which had attended the meetings' refreshments, adopted the following resolution. "That an additional fund be adopted for the sole purpose of refreshments, to be known as the private fund of Lodge No. 22. Second, that every member be assessed the sum of three shillings at the beginning of every half year. Also, that the Master of the Lodge shall once every year at the time of appointment of the Deacons, nominate two persons as Caterers to take charge of the refreshments."

This action by Lodge No. 22, and later brought to the attention of the Grand Lodge of Virginia, may have brought about the establishment of the Office of Stewards in the Lodges.
