My Brethren:
June brings not only summer, but a number of public programs oriented at increasing the fraternal bonds within our fraternity and community relations within the City of Alexandria.
On the fifth, we will have our Annual Lodge Picnic and joining us this year are Andrew Jackson Lodge, Mount Vernon Royal Arch Chapter, Martha Washington Order of the Eastern Star, Old Dominion Commandry, the Alexandria Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Alexandria-Washington Chapter, Order of DeMolay. This will be an opportunity to bring our families and friends for good food, fun and games at the Fort Hunt National Park, south of Alexandria. There will be a baseball game with the Masons challenging the DeMolay. The Kena Clowns will also make a special appearance for the children with gifts, balloons and surprises.
At our first stated meeting Dr. S. Brent Morris, 33° will present a program on Masonic philosophies and symbolism. Dr. Morris is a well-known scholar and author of several current publications that deal with these subjects. Let us support his presence as we increase our knowledge in the Royal Art.
On Saturday, June 12 at the Alexandria Water Front Festival, our lodge together with the other lodges of District 1A will sponsor a Childhood ID Clinic. Please contact myself or Rt. Wor. Robert C. Swiger if you would like to assist in this community project in cooperation with the City of Alexandria.
On June 24, we will conduct The Saint John the Baptist Day Celebration.
The schedule of events to take place are:
6:00 Lodge opens at Gadsby's Tavern
6:30 Procession to Christ Church with the First Virginia Regiment
7:00 Charity Sermon by the Rector, the Very Reverend William M. Hale
7:15 Gift of charity presented to the Mayor of Alexandria for the poor of the city
7:30 Recession to Gadsby's Tavern
8:00 Dinner and Official Masonic Toasts
9:00 Address by Monta Lee Dakin, Curator of Gadsby's Tavern and Museum
9:30 Close Lodge
Dinner tickets will be sold at a cost of $15.00. The lodge officers will have only 90 tickets because of the limited space in the tavern, so buy your tickets early. Black-Tie is requested with a white dinner jacket for officers and officials. Those that would like to witness the charity sermon by the Very Reverend Hale at Christ Church without participating in the other events may go directly to the church by 6:45pm. The church service and procession will be open to the public and general media.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Claude H. Harris, Jr.
Worshipful Master

FROM THE CONSTITUTIONS OF FREEMASONRY: Every brother must attend all meetings, whether stated or emergent, when duly summoned unless he can offer to the Master and Wardens such plea of necessity for his absence as the said laws and regulations admit.
