Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

July 1993

Master's Message

My Brethren:

The warm days of summer are now upon us, and I am happy to say that the calendar is not as active, giving our officers time to rest from the schedule of previous months.

On the fifth, we will make an official visit to the Alexandria-Washington Chapter of DeMolay. Please attend this meeting in the North Room of the Memorial, as we support our Masonic youth.

On our first stated meeting on July 8, we have the honor of receiving The Virginia Craftsmen. For those who not familiar with this group, they are a uniformed Masonic team that has traveled world-wide exemplifying the Ancient York Rite as practiced by the Grand Lodge of Virginia. They were first conceived by the Masonic author Allen E. Roberts in the 1960's and Rt. Wor. Roberts will accompany the Craftsmen as they assume the stations and places of the lodge for the opening and closing ritual. Rt. Wor. Roberts has further honored us by being our guest speaker for the evening and will present a program on Freemasonry during Civil War.

At our second stated meeting July 22, we have a multitude of activities to take place. First, we have our annual visit from Archer Bailey Gay Lodge No. 275. Secondly, we will be honoring two Eagle Scouts that have achieved many awards in their fields of accomplishment. Bro. Samir Younes, a member of our lodge, is also traveling from Indiana to present his program on Masonic architecture. Bro. Younes is a professor at Notre Dame University and is quite knowledgeable on this subject. He will present not only his program, but also a proposal to architecturally re-design and redecorate our ceremonial lodge room here in the Memorial. Family and friends are welcome and should arrive by 8:30pm for both programs.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Claude H. Harris, Jr.
Worshipful Master

Nor must they suffer any others to spread unjust reproaches or calumnies against a brother behind his back, nor to injure him in his fortune, occupation or character; but they shall defend such a brother, and give him notice of any danger of injury wherewith he may be threatened, to enable him to escape the same, as far as is consistent with honor, prudence, and the safety of religion, morality, and the state, but no further.
