This marks the beginning of another Masonic year. It is with a great sense of hUInility that I approach the task of serving as Master of this Lodge which means so much to all of us.
I deeply appreciate the confidence that the members of the Lodge have shown by electing me the Master for Masonic Year 5994 (A.D. 1994). No honor or privilege have I gained during my lifetime is more significant to me than being elected the 137th Master of Alexandria-Washington Lodge, and to serve in the footsteps of Ill. Bro. George Washington. I will try to do my very best as Master, and pray I will live up to your expectations.
We have a dedicated and talented group of Officers to manage the Lodge this year . I thank each and every one of these fine Masons for agreeing to assist me in this monumental task. With their assistance, in a "team effort, " we can achieve our objectives and have a harmonious year marked by the joy of Brotherly Love and Affection.
We have a busy year ahead of us. With the candidates we have in process in the degrees, and petitions in hand, we will probably have at least two called meetings a month. We will be making a number of visits to other lodges--most lodges in Masonic Districts 1-A and 1-B and some outside Virginia; This, I feel is a most important part of Masonry. This is the year for our quadrennial visit (and bus trip) to Liberty Lodge in Beverly, Massachusetts, scheduled for the weekend of September 16-18. On November 4, we will visit Fredricksburg Lodge No.4 to celebrate Washington's raising. It is my hope that we can also visit William L. EIkins Lodge No. 646 in Philadelphia as wen as Washington Lodge No. 21 in New York.
Our George Washington Birthday Celebration win be held on February 19, 1994, the Saturday closest to his actual birthday. This Celebration will include wreath laying by our Lodge and others at Mount Vernon; a reception at Collingwood; reception of the Grand Master in our Lodge for his 1994 official visit; a banquet in the dining room of traditional foods from Mount Vernon cookbooks; and entertainment in the auditorium. Of course, your Ladies are invited to attend the banquet and the entertainment. Seating at the banquet will be for ticket holders only, so please get your tickets from any of the Lodge officers. Banquet tickets will be $15.00 per person. Seating at dinner will be limited to 150 places, so get your tickets early.
I call your attention to our second stated communication this month. This will be a perfect time for those of you who might be shy in visiting another lodge for fear that you might have to stand an examination. Wor. John Everly will conduct an in attendance through typical examinations for the degrees--a worthwhile evening for those ofus who are "Rusty" as well as those who aren't.
Sincerely and Fraternally,

Frank R. Dunaway, Jr.
Worshipful Master
