Thirty nine Brethren and Ladies from our Lodge, Andrew Jackson Lodge and other nearby lodges made the bus trip to Masonic Family Day in Richmond on July 9. There, together with hundreds of others, we visited the Masonic Home, enjoyed the Masonic Family Parade and great barbecue prepared by Amelia Lodge.
On Sunday, July 17, seven members of Alexandria-Washington Lodge joined more than 40 other Brethren at Woodstock to hold a Masonic funeral service for Bro. CHARLES FRANCIS CORNNELL, a long-time member of our Lodge who had moved to Woodstock some years ago. Bro. Cornnell had been in deteriorating helath for some time. May he rest in peace.
I'm very pleased that Brethren stepped forward in answer to our "Help Wanted" items in earlier Trestleboards. Last month, we welcomed Bro. Tom Little as Junior Steward. This month we are pleased to recognize Bro. Fred Nielsen who has accepted the position of Tiler. Both will be installed on August 11.
August finds us with a full Trestleboard; Stated Communications, degree work, three official visits and Blue Lodge Night at Alexandria Scottish Rite. Our Official Visits are to Springfield Lodge, Tuesday, August 2; to Archer Bailey Gay Lodge, Thursday, August 25; to Elmer Timberman Lodge on Monday, August 15 to join in their annual Table Lodge. See the Worshipful Master for tickets ($10.00).
At our first Stated Communication, August 11, we will observe Civic Recognition Night, at which we will present a Community Builder Award. Then, our second Stated Communication, August 18 (third Thursday), is a joint meeting with Andrew Jackson Lodge in their Lodge Room. By moving this Communication to the third Thursday, we can make our Official Visit to Archer Bailey Gay Lodge on the fourth Thursday, their (and our) regular meeting night.
Beginning on August 9, the Memorial Masonic School, jointly sponsored by Alexandria-Washington Lodge and Andrew Jackson Lodge, will be held in the Alexandria-Washington Lodge Room. This first month, we will meet on the second and third Tuesdays; thereafter we'll determine which two Tuesdays of each month we will meet. Rt. Wor. Jack Riddell is our principal instructor, along with Rt. Wor. Willard Flockhart, Wor. Harold Cumbee and Wor. Stephen Law. All are invited as we will have instruction at all levels, tailored to the needs of those who attend.
Our Fraternal visit to Liberty Lodge departs for Beverly, Massachusetts from the GWMNM at 8:00 AM on September 16. Call Rt. Wor. Bob Swiger {703-683-6971) or Wor. Wardell Thomas (703-765-4649). Planning Meeting August 28.
Sincerely and Fraternally,

Frank R. Dunaway, Jr.
Worshipful Master
