September is upon us and it is one of the busiest months of our Lodge year. Just look at our Trestleboard; Stated Communications, our trip to Liberty Lodge, work in all three degrees, a combined visit from Monitor Lodge 197 and Madisonville-Madeira Lodge 419, then our Ladies Night following on October 1.
August marks the end of the Blood Program Year. Through the generosity of all of our Brethren who participated as donors, and coordinated by Bro. Mark Underwood, our Junior Warden, Alexandria-Washington Lodge has again qualified for the Seymour Jonas Levy Award. My appreciation to all.
It's time to think about our 1995 England Trip and Visit to Constitutional Lodge. At 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 7, the first meeting to plan for this trip will held be in the Dining Room of the Memorial. All who intend to make this trip should attend so that your preferences can be considered in the planning.
At our first Stated Communication, September 8, we will observe Wardens Night, with all officers moving up a step. Our speaker for the evening is Rt. Wor. James Bernard Wilkinson, Grand Senior Warden. Then, at our second Stated Communication, September 22, we will welcome our own District Deputy Grand Master, Rt. Wor. Robert Clay Swiger, as he makes his official visit to his mother lodge. This is his last Official Visit in his term as District Deputy.
On September 6 and 20, the George Washington Memorial Masonic School, jointly sponsored by Alexandria-Washington Lodge and Andrew Jackson Lodge, will meet in the Alexandria-Washington Lodge Room. Rt. Wor. Jack Riddell is our principal instructor, along with Rt. Wor. Willard Flockhart, Wor. Harold Cumbee and Wor. Stephen Law. All Masons in the area are invited; A-W 22 officers are expected to attend. We will have instruction at all levels, tailored to the needs of those who attend.
Our Fraternal visit to Liberty Lodge departs for Beverly, Massachusetts from the GWMNM at 8:00 AM on September 16. Call Rt. Wor. Bob Swiger (703-683-6971) or Wor. Wardell Thomas (703-765-4649). Planning Meeting August 28.
The District 1-A Ritual School will be held in Alexandria-Washington Lodge Room on September 14. All Master Masons welcome; A-W 22 officers are expected to attend.
Grand Lodge will be held this year in Roanoke on Monday and Tuesday, November 14 and 15. Housing is scattered among several hotels. Please see the Worshipful Master if you plan to attend and want to stay in the same hotel as the officers and other members of the lodge. We willtry to get you a room.
Saturday, September 24 will be a great day in Fraternal relations with two Visiting Lodges. Lodge will open at 10:00 AM, with the officers of Monitor Lodge No. 197 (Virginia) in the stations. We will also welcome members of Madisonville-Madeira Lodge No. 419 (Ohio) who are coming from Cincinnati to visit. Monitor Lodge will confer the MM Degree on their candidate and will call from laOOr to refreshment for lunch. After a Hearty LUNCH, we'll return to the Lodge room and resume labor. With the officers of Alexandria-Washington Lodge in the stations, the MM Degree will be conferred on an Alexandria-Washington candidate -- with the second section in full costume. After the MM Lecture, we'll close. This promises to be a lot of fun and we expect a good crowd. Plan to be with us!
Our Ladies Night will be held on October 1 at the Holiday Inn on Eisenhower Avenue. Since the date is so close upon us, and our October Trestleboard may not reach you in time, I'm including this in the September Trestleboard. To all A-W 22 Brethren: This is your invitation! Come out to Ladies Night and bring your Ladies! Our guests will include our "A-W Sweet-hearts," (our Alexandria-Washington Lodge widows) together with Officers and their ladies from William L. Elkins Lodge No. 646 in Philadelphia. As usual, we will also be joined by other Elkins members and their ladies. This long-standing social interchange between our Lodges is one of the highlights of our Masonic year.
Our Ladies Night Hospitality Suite will be in operation from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM and will reopen after the Banquet and entertainment. The Banquet will be held at 6:30 PM in the Ballroom, with music from the musicians of the "Singing Cedars Orchestra" during dinner. Following dinner, the "Singing Cedars" will provide a choral concert, after which the Orchestra will continue with "Big Band" music for dancing. Sunday morning at 10:00 AM, we'll have brunch at the Ft. Myer Officer's Club. Tickets for the Ladies Night Banquet are $25.00 per person; for Sunday Brunch $14.00 per person. See any A-W 22 Lodge Officer for tickets. Purchase your tickets for these events no later than Monday September 26!
Another event in early October (Friday, October 7) is the dinner to honor the memory of Most Wor. Werner Herman Morlock at Kena Shrine Temple. A ticket order form is included in this Trestleboard. Let's support this function, proceeds of which will fund a memorial to MW Bill Morlock -- our own Northern Virginia Grand Master -- to be installed in the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. If you can't attend, send a donation to Rt. Wor. Danny Levin.
Sincerely and Fraternally,

Frank R. Dunaway, Jr.
Worshipful Master

REMINDERS
MASONIC FUNERAL SERVICES: One of our most important duties as a Master Mason is to join with our Brethren "...to offer to the memory of our deceased Brother the last tribute of our affections, thereby demonstrating the sincerity of our past esteem..." Our Lodge has been fortunate in that we have not lost a large number of Brethren this year and thus, we haven't had many funerals. All of us have many personal commitments, but when we are asked to attend a Brother's funeral, this should be a high priority with us. When you are notified of a funeral, please demonstrate that you remember your obligations to the living.
HELP NEEDED: Our Tiler's position is still open and we need to fill it...We are fortunate that Bro. Art Johnson has stepped in as Acting Tiler for most of the last several months. Art's Schedule does not pennit his accepting the position permanently. The Tiler's position is important to our Lodge and requires a dependable individual who has a strong desire to uphold the appearance of Alexandria- Washington Lodge and who is able to attend all Stated and Called Communications, Funerals, Official Visits, etc. If you would like to serve as Tiler, please call the Worshipful Master at 703-548-0318.
1994 DUES CARDS: The Secretary still has some 1994 Dues Cards. Look in your wallet and see if he still has yours. Don't risk suspension for non-payment of dues (NPD). If you find that the card in your wallet says "1993," take a minute to write your check for $35.00 and send it to our Secretary. He'll be pleased to send you a 1994 card. Better yet, how about Life Membership in Perpetuity! See below.
LIFE MEMBERSHIP IN PERPETUITY: The LMIP program provides an opportunity to help ensure a stable income for our Lodge in years to come. The LMIP one-time payment for A-W 22 is approximately 16 times our dues (some odd pennies for insurance makes it $563.52). Your LMIP contribution endows your Lodge with an annuity equal to your dues amount forever. See the Secretary.
THE MASONIC BENEFIT FUND was established in 1925 to provide a means whereby member Master Masons can honor their Obligation to contribute to the relief of a Widow of a deceased Brother Master Mason, or such beneficiary as predetermined by the member. The Masonic Benefit Fund is not an insurance policy. Membership in the Fund is open to any Master Mason who is a member of a Lodge in any of the nine Masonic Districts in Northern Virginia and who is under 60 years of age. For information see Bro. George F. Harrington (703-416-7280).
