December...so soon we come to the end of a very eventful year. Included in this bulletin is a brief report of this year's Lodge highlights.
As this is the month for Masonic elections and installations as well as Holiday celebrations, we will be making two Official visits this month. On December 1 (Thursday), we will visit William L. Elkins Lodge No. 646 in Philadelphia for their Annual Dinner, election and installation. We'll leave from the south parking lot of the GWMNM at 3:00pm. Meet at 2:45pm to form car pools for the trip. After the meeting we'll return to the GWMNM by about 1:00am. Our second visit will be on Monday, December 5 to Potomac Lodge No. 5 in DC for their Annual Dinner, election and installation. Again, we'll meet in the south parking lot of the GWMNM and form car pools, but at 6:00pm. Please contact the Worshipful Master if you want to join us for either of these visits.
At our Stated Communication on December 8. we will receive Lodge Annual Reports and have a report on the proceedings of the Grand Lodge Session which was held in Roanoke in November.
On December 14, we mark a sad but important day in our history as we observe the 195th anniversary of the death of Illustrious Bro. George Washington. The Lodge will assemble at the gate of the Mount Vernon Estate at 8:15am and proceed to the Tomb where we will honor Bro. Washington by laying wreaths there. After the ceremonies, we will travel to Collingwood for a reception and a short program. Please attend if you can.
Our last Stated Communication for the year is December 22. By Masonic Law, this is the meeting at which the Lodge must hold Election of Officers for the ensuing Masonic year. At this meeting, we will also Close the Lodge of Sorrow and conduct a Memorial Service for our Brethren who this year have passed to the Celestial Lodge on High and recognize Masonic Birthdays.
Officers of Alexandria-Washington Lodge for 1995 will be installed at an Open Installation at 7:30pm on Tuesday, December 27 in the Auditorium of the GWMNM. Bring your family and friends; this is an excellent opportunity to provide your non-Mason friends with an introduction to the tenets of our institution. Elsewhere in this month's Bulletin, is an Installation list for the lodges in Masonic Districts 1-A and 1-B. Try to attend at least some of these and enjoy the Masonic fellowship that visitation generates.
The George Washington Memorial Masonic School will meet in A-W 22's Lodge Room on December 6 and 20 at 7:30pm. All are invited to this school for instruction at all levels, tailored to the needs of those in attendance.
Sincerely and Fraternally,

Frank R. Dunaway, Jr.
Worshipful Master

MASTER'S SUMMARY REPORT FOR MASONIC YEAR 5994
My brethren, I will always treasure the honor you bestowed on me by electing me to serve you and Alexandria- Washington Lodge as Master for the Masonic year, 5994. To preside over this Lodge -- so rich in history and so honored by the Craft -- is, at once, an exhilarating and a humbling experience.
Together, we have made this a successful year. We have achieved much and accomplished a number of goals which I had set for us at the beginning of the year. Among them were: To make this a "plus" year in membership; To "Spread Generously the Cement of Brotherly Love..."by Masonic visitation; To continue to demonstrate Lodge program excellence and to qualify for the James Noah Hillman Award; To actively support the Grand Lodge Blood Program and to qualify for the Seymour Jonas Levy Award; To hold Lodge activities that encourage family participation; To make Alexandria- Washington Lodge more visible in the Alexandria community.
Membership: The Lodge has had positive growth in membership for the first time in several years. This year we raised eight Master Masons. Although this is fewer than I had hoped to raise, we have several active candidates in process and a number of petitions on which we will ballot as soon as vouchers are verified for them. We elected three Honorary members and twenty-one Brethren to affiliate membership. Eighteen of our Brethren were called to the Celestial Lodge above. We have had no suspensions for non-payment of dues and no demits.
Masonic Visitation: The Lodge will have made twenty planned, announced visits to other lodges during this year .These included our bus trip to visit Liberty Lodge in Beverly, Massachusetts, two visits to Elkins Lodge in Philadelphia and our annual visit to Fredricksburg Lodge to celebrate Washington's initiation. We hosted visits from many of our sister lodges. In September, we celebrated a "Master Mason Degree Day" in our Lodge, with brethren from Monitor Lodge No. 197 of Hampton, Virginia and Madisonville-Madeira Lodge No.419 of Mariemont, Ohio.
Program Excellence: We earned the James Noah Hillman Award again. This award recognizes the Lodge's consistent superior performance in four separate program areas--Ritual, Masonic Education, Administration and Charity-Family-Community Service. Fewer than 25 percent of the lodges in Virginia qualify for the Hillman award each year.
Blood Program: Under the direction of Bro. Mark Underwood, our Junior Warden, many brethren participated and the Lodge again received the Seymour Jonas Levy Award. Several brethren donated platelets which are recognized by the program as equalling ten pints per donation. Platelets are used in treatment for leukemia.
Family Participation: We enjoyed the company of our families and friends at youth Night, Presentation of Community Builder Awards and Veterans Night. The Lodge sponsored a bus to Masonic Family Day at the Masonic Home. Jointly with Andrew Jackson Lodge, we held our Family Picnic and invited members from other bodies which meet in the GWMNM. We enjoyed our Annual George Washington Birthday Banquet, Ladies Nights with Brethren and Ladies from Elkins Lodge, Receptions at Collingwood after Wreath Layings, etc.
Community Visibility: Our Lodge jointly sponsored a Masonic Open House at the GWMNM in February. We made two "Community Builder" Awards, recognizing contributions to the community by non-Masons. As a body, the Lodge attended services at Christ Church on St. John the Baptist Day and a donation was made to the City of Alexandria to be used to help the poor of the City. On November 6, six members of the Lodge attended Valley Forge Chapel to celebrate Bro. George Washington's initiation.
As I write this, we are back in Alexandria from the 1994 Grand Lodge Session in Roanoke. Most Wor. Thomas Frederick May was elected and installed Grand Master of Masons in Virginia for a full term; Other line officers advanced and Rt. Wor. Albert Hugh Tignor was elected and installed Grand Junior Deacon. This has been an exciting year. I hope that you have enjoyed it as much as I have. I deeply appreciate this honor.
Respectfully submitted,
