Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

July 1995

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

We had an extremely busy June and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Brethren for their assistance in the Degrees, the Saint John The Baptist Celebration and the Cornerstone Ceremony.

"There is an unseen cord that binds
The whole wide world together;
Through every human life it winds,
This one mysterious tether.
There are no separate lives; the chain,
Too subtle for our seeing,
Unites us all upon the plane
Of universal being." *

We need only to heed the teachings of Freemasonry which constantly remind us of our universal brotherhood. Freemasonry is "a fraternity rooted in the nature and need of humanity; an order of men initiated; sworn and trained to uphold all the redeeming ideals of society, and to make righteousness and the will of God prevail."* There are several ways we can obtain these teachings. One is through the Degrees and Catechisms, the wonderful allegorical and symbolic lessons of the ritual. Another is through the many books, journals and papers written about the Craft. A third is through communication with our Brethren. This communication can occur at the Stated and Called Communications of the Lodge, at discussion groups, seminars, and conferences and by conversing with our Brethren.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

George D. Seghers
Worshipful Master
