The Fraternal visit to Constitutional Lodge No. 294, Beverley, England was a great success. Our English Brethren and their families treated us with extreme hospitality and generosity. It truly exemplified the universality of Freemasonry.
The Lodge has received a request from Historic Alexandria to reenact the laying of the cornerstone of The Alexandria Academy. The Lodge laid the original cornerstone in 1785. The ceremony will take place Thursday, September 7, 1995.
Very often candidates pass through the initiation process without being affected or changed. This can be due to several reasons, it can even be the fault of the candidate. Prior to seeking admittance to the Fraternity the candidate should learn as much about it as he can, at least its history and present activities. After the initiation ceremonies he should study and seek to find out as much as he can about the experience he has been through. In all other cases the poor effect of the initiation is the fault of the Lodge. The ritual should not be delivered in a mechanical or purely technical way, neither should it be delivered in a slovenly nor careless manner. The entire focus of the ritual should be directed at and for the candidate. The degrees should be delivered in a proficient, clear and meaningful manner, which will enable the candidate to understand what is happening. The major concern should be that the candidate receives the meaning of the ritual.
