Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

September 1995

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Table Lodge to honor our Friend and Brother Godfrey P. Runaldue. It was an evening of good food, good fellowship and real brotherhood.

Our first Stated Meeting this month will be held Thursday, September 7th in conjunction with the Cornerstone Ceremony for The Alexandria Academy. We will not hold a meeting September 14th. We will hold our second Stated Meeting in the Friendship Firehouse, 107 S. Alfred Street, Alexandria. Brother George Washington was a founding member of the Friendship Fire Company.

"The Masonic Institution stands for liberty, equality and fraternity ...for all mankind." * Freemasonry teaches the Universal Brotherhood of Man, to achieve this man must be in the right relationship with his fellow man. "Brotherhood does not demand of us that we privately like people who are obnoxious to us, or that others should like us who find our company distasteful. Such things are in the domain of one's intimate likes and dislikes and have to do with private friendship rather than with brotherhood. Ifl cannot like this neighbor ofmine I can be a brother to him nevertheless. I can give him exact justice in all my dealings with him. I can always refuse to do evil to him or speak evil of him. If I have a difference with him I can differ with him as one man to another, honestly and openly, without childish petulance. Such an attitude is the brotherly spirit, and it can flourish where private friendship is impossible." **

Sincerely and Fraternally,

George D. Seghers
Worshipful Master
