Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

November 1995

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

Ladies Night was well received and appreciated by our honored guests. Louise and I thank all of you who helped make the evening a great success.

Saturday, November 4, 1995, Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 will celebrate the Initiation of Brother George Washington. Please contact our Secretary if you plan to attend. Our Lodge will present a portrait of the Grand Master in the George Washington Chair at this meeting.

We have the pleasure and honor of welcoming four of our Brothers from Constitutional Lodge No. 294, Beverley, England. Worshipful Brothers Bob Richardson, Graham Stroud, Stanley Byatt and Gordon Howroyd will arrive November 7, 1995.

Grand Lodge will be held November 13 and 14, 1995 in Richmond, Virginia. At our Stated Communication on November 9th we will briefly discuss the Resolutions to be considered at Grand Lodge.

"Goethe, a great Mason, said that talent may develop in solitude, but character is created in society. Genius may shine aloof and alone, like a star, but goodness is social, and it takes two men and God to make a brother. In the Holy Book which lies open on our altar we read;s 'No man liveth unto himself; no man dieth unto himself'. We are tied together, seeking that truth which none may learn for another, and none may learn alone. No one ofus is strong enough not to need the companionship of good men and the consecration of great ideals. Here lies the deepest meaning and value of Masonry; it is a fellowship of men seeking goodness, to be drawn into its spirit and quest, is to be made better than ourselves." *

Sincerely and Fraternally,

George D. Seghers
Worshipful Master

Proposed Amendment to Change Article III of the By-Laws of Alexandria-WashingtonLodge No. 22 A.F. & A.M., Alexandria, Virginia.

To be read at the Stated Communication of this Lodge held on November 9, 1995 and voted on at the Stated Communication of this Lodge held on December 14, 1995.

The current wording of Article III is as follows:

Article III

The fees for the degrees in this Lodge shall be one hundred fifty-five dollars ($155.00) payable as follows: One hundred dollars ($100.00) for the degree of Entered Apprentice of which seventy-five dollars ($75.00) shall accompany the petition; Twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for the degree of Fellowcraft; and thirty dollars ($30.00) for the degree of Master Mason. The fee for affiliation for a Non-Virginia Mason shall be twenty-five dollars ($25.00) which amount shall accompany the application for affiliation.

Proposed wording of Article III is as follows:

Article III

The fees for the degrees in this Lodge shall be two hundred fifty dollars ($250.00) payable as follows: One hundred dollars ($100.00) for the degree of Entered Apprentice which shall accompany the petition. Seventy-five dollars ($75.00) for the degree of Fellowcraft; and seventy-five dollars ($75.00) for the degree of Master Mason. The fee for affiliation for a Non-Virginia Mason shall be seventy-five ($75.00) which amount shall accompany the application for affiliation.

The reason for the requested change in Article III of the lodge by-laws is the increase in Grand Lodge assessment for degree fees. Also, the increased cost in Aprons, Bibles, Certificates, Booklets, etc. necessitates the increase in fees.
