My Brethren:
Our first Stated Communication deals with the scheduled topic of Fortitude. Earlier this year, I asked Right Worshipful William A. Brown, PDDGM, to write a play to be presented on October 10 concerning the formation of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Association. I felt a play on this particular subject would be educational, of a genuine interest to the Brethren, and that the building of the Memorial is the embodiment of Fortitude. The play will be presented in the North room of the Memorial at approximately 8:30 p.m. and is open to our families, friends, and the public.
The 51st Masonic Night Service will be held at the First Christian Church, 2723 King Street, on Sunday, October 6, 1996, at 7:30 p.m. This is an evening worship service conducted by the First Christian Church and the Masonic Community. The sermon is to be given by Most Worshipful James B. Wilkinson, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia. Make plans to attend!
The Pennsylvania Brethren and their ladies from William L. Elkins Lodge No. 646 will be here on Saturday, October 12, for the annual Ladie's Night Celebration. A hospitality suite will be set up on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on Eisenhower Avenue to welcome our guests. Dinner will be served in the Dining Hall of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial with entertainment to follow. This is an excellent opportunity to have a delightful evening with your lady and show your appreciation for her support. Tickets may be purchased from the officers of Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22.
October 19 brings about a busy day. The Grand Master's One-Day Class will be held in the George Washington Masonic National Memorial, and the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia has asked Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22 and Potomac Lodge No. 5 to participate in a cornerstone ceremony at George Washington University (near the Marvin Center). This event is a wonderful opportunity to renew historical bonds between us, Potomac Lodge No. 5, and the Grand Lodge of the District of Columbia!
The Grand Master has proclaimed the month of October to be Founder's Day Month. As we recognize and honor the Brethren who labored to establish an independent Grand Lodge for us, we will also recognize the heritage of Alexandria-Washington Lodge by having a Past Master's Night on October 24 at 6:30 p.m. The Past Masters will be holding a Table Lodge this year. Due to the nature of the meal, $5 tickets will be sold beforehand in order to have an accurate count of participants and to offset a portion of the cost of the dinner. Tickets may be purchased from the officers. NOTE: We will read the Resolutions to be considered at the Grand Lodge Annual Communication and present two Community Builders' Awards at this meeting.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Mark W. Underwood
Worshipful Master
