Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

September 1997

FROM THE EAST

Brethren,

One Fellow craft was passed in our lodge last month. The "mason at sight" ceremony was memorable. It is always a great honor to have the Grand Master of Virgina and members of the Grand Line in our lodge. I would like to thank everyone who supported this program and the degree conferral.

At our first stated communication, Wor. John Shroeder will speak on The Symbol of the Color Blue. At our second stated communication Dr. S. Brent Morris will speak on the "Rectofied Scottish Rite in the U. S. and Its Symbols."

The Masonic Benefit Fund, established in 1925, provides a means whereby member Master Masons may honor their obligation to the relief of the Widow of a deceased Brother Master Mason. The Fund has broadened the eligibility for membership and is now available to any Master Mason under the age of 68. Application fee is $2.50 with infrequent assessments of $15.00 when payment is made to a widow. This is not an insurance program but will provide your widow with instant income when she needs it most. Contact Wor. George F. Harrington, (703) 416-7280 or the Senior Warden for an application and information.

At the stated communication in July a motion was presented to change the By-law Article II. The motion will be acted on during the stated communication of September 11, 1997. This proposal is of great importance to all members of the lodge, and I once again elicit your involvement and support in this crucial issue. The Finance Committee will continue to meet to seek solutions for the financial issues of our lodge. All Brethren are welcome to attend these meetings.

Two visiting Lodges are scheduled to use our Lodge room next month: Harmony Lodge #17 (District of Columbia) - Sept 3 - 6 p.m. and Daskam-Columbia #25 (Connecticut) - Sept 27 - 7 p.m.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Walter L. Margeson
Worshipful Master
