My Brethren:
I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve the Lodge as your Worshipful Master this year. I would also like to thank those, especially the officers, who have worked with and helped me over the past several years. Being an officer in Alexandria-Washington Lodge is one of the greatest honors I have ever received and I look forward to many more years of service to the Lodge.
At our first Stated Communication, December 10, I will be speaking about my theme this year, "A Temple of Living Stones". This talk will build on the one I gave in January and further outline its importance to the Craft and our individual lives.
On December 14, we will commemorate the 199th anniversary of the death of our Worshipful Brother George Washington. The Lodge will assemble at the gates of the Mount Vernon Estate at 8:15 a.m. and lay a wreath at the tomb of Wor. Bro. Washington at 8:30 a.m. Most Worshipful George Harry Chapin, Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, will join us for this event.
Our second Stated Communication will be December 17. We will receive the Lodge Annual Reports, hold Election of Officers for 1999, hold a Memorial Service for our departed Brethren, and Close the Lodge of Sorrow.
After ten years of dedicated service, Bro. Art Pierson is stepping down as Chapter Dad of the Alexandra-Washington DeMolay Chapter. While he will still remain active, I know that you will join with me in thanking Bro. Pierson for all of his hard work over the years. His departure, unfortunately, leaves a vacancy. If you are interested in knowing more about the position of Chapter Dad, please contact me or the Chapter Advisor, Bro. Terry Gigure (703-360-6177).
The Alexandria-Washington Lodge Widows' Fund that was established this year is growing but needs your support. This fund is designed to care for the personal needs of our special ladies. If you would like to make a donation, you can send it to the Lodge Secretary, Most Wor. Monty Quick.
The Installation of Officers for 1999 will be held on Monday, December 28. It will be an open installation ceremony, and I encourage each of you to bring your family and support the new line of officers.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Philip J. Hays
Worshipful Master
