My Brethren:
May is again upon us, and we look forward to a long enjoyable spring. After a very busy April, this month should be somewhat more relaxed, though we do have several Called Communications planned, as well as several Lodges who are coming to visit us.
At our first Stated Communication, our District Blood Coordinator, Brother Robert Mertz, will present his program on the state of our district's blood contributions and how we can all contribute to assist with this ongoing need. Our Lodge Education Officer, Brother Lucian Guthrie, will present a program on Historical Elements of Alexandria and How They Relate To Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22. This will be the first in a series of presentations by our Lodge Education Officer, and we look forward to his ongoing contribution to our Lodge's continued learning about its past.
This month, we welcome our newest member to the Officer Line, Brother Jerry Dean Owen, who will serve as the Junior Steward for the Lodge. Jerry will assist Brother Tom McMahan in coordinating the Steward's Pool as well as helping to introduce our Brethren to our Entered Apprentices and Fellowcraft members who work so diligently in preparing our post-meeting refreshment.
We continue to work on the telephone tree to make sure it is reaching all of the Brethren in the local area. If you who are not receiving a telephone call from a Brother before a Stated or Called Communication please contact either our Junior Warden, Jorge Fernández, or our Lodge Instructor of Work, Right Worshipful Jack Canard and let them know. It is our goal to make sure all of our Brethren actively know about and can participate in Lodge.
Looking forward to seeing you in Lodge this month.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Brent Nial Campbell
Worshipful Master

"The county of Alexandria was retroceded to the State of Virginia, in 1846, at which time this was the only Lodge in existence in Alexandria, and no other Grand Lodge could legally authorize the working of a Lodge within its jurisdiction.
From the 23d day of May, 1861, to the 11th day of May, 1865, this Lodge ceased its labor, meeting only upon two occasions-June 23, 1861, and January 29, 1862, -during this period, and then to perform the last tribute of respect to two of its deceased members.
This suspension of labor was in consequence of the existence of a state of war between the States of the Union, and the presence in the town of the U.S. Army, the orders of whose Commander confined the people to the limits of their own premises, after 9 o'clock, P. M., unless protected by a pass which was unknown to Masonry."
