Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

August 2003

Master's Message

Brethren,

I would personally like to thank Brother Joshua Harrison Wise for having initiated, planned and executed the Amateur Radio Field Day on the weekend of June 28. A lot of hard work went into its development. Although we didn't get as many people as we had expected, it was very well received by those who participated. Between the Lodge picnic that kicked it off and the bank of various styles of radios, it was a fun time for everyone involved. A big "thank you" to the brethren that came out to help with the set up and clean up that made it that much more successful. We could not have done it without you!

We start the month off in Fredericksburg, VA, where we will hold a Joint Called Communication with Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4 for the purpose of conferring a dual Master Mason Degree. This is in commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the Raising of our Illustrious Brother George Washington to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on August 4, 1753. A Fellowcraft from our Lodge has been chosen for this degree. He has already successfully performed his catechism return, in anticipation of his Raising with another Fellowcraft from Fredericksburg No. 4. We will call off between the First Section and the two Second Sections for lunch. This is a very special once-in-a-lifetime event that cannot be missed!

Directions to Fredericksburg Lodge No. 4

95 South to Route 17 South (Falmouth Exit), turn right onto Route 1 South, go to first traffic light (crossing over Falmouth Bridge) and turn left onto Princess Anne Street. Proceed to 803 Princess Anne Street.

At our first Stated Communication, we will have our own Chaplain and Past Master, Worshipful Frank Rosser Dunaway, Jr., make a presentation on our Lodge's home, the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. He plans on discussing its history, what has been accomplished in its many years of operation, and what is planned for the future.

Our second Stated Communication will be this year's "Bring a Friend" night. I encourage all brethren with friends interested in joining the Masonic family to invite them to Lodge to see what we're all about. Our District Education Officer, Worshipful Sean O'Neill, will be the speaker for that evening. The DEO of District 1B, Jim Connal, will be the alternate, depending on W.B. O'Neill's availability.

August is also the occasion of two time-honored traditions:

Sincerely and fraternally,

James M. Stevenson
