The month of the second anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our Native Soil is upon us. I ask that all brethren wheresoever dispersed keep the families of the fallen in their thoughts and prayers. Our first Stated Communication of September will fall on the exact date, September 11, and I have asked our Chaplain, Worshipful Frank Dunaway, to prepare a special prayer. The night's program will be on the recently created Committee on Scholarships and Educational Activities. Worshipful Jim Stone, Chairman, will be making a presentation that evening on how far the committee has come in such a short amount of time since its inception last year and what their plans are for the future. I would personally like to thank and commend the members of the committee in their efforts to giving form to the dream.
Our second Stated Communication will be this year's annual "Wardens' Night". Right Worshipful Claude Harris will be returning to his Mother Lodge to make a special presentation on the one-day Master Mason's class as perceived abroad. Our Senior Warden, Brother Frank Skwirut is from Brazil, where I'm told there is a very different view of Freemasonry, and he felt this would be an appropriate topic for the evening. I ask all brethren to come out to support their Wardens and the Future Leaders of our great Lodge.
We have been invited to the Official Visit of the Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, Most Worshipful Frederick Garrison Martin, III at the Stated Communication of John Blair Lodge No. 187 on Wednesday, September 17. We will be making a visit of our own that evening in support of the Grand Master. I invite all brethren to attend this special meeting. Dinner begins at 6:30 PM and the Communication at 7:30 PM. Tickets are being sold in advance at $15 per person and are available from Worshipful Robert Rohrback, Master of John Blair, by either mailing to him at 9109 Courtley Court, Fairfax, VA 22031 or calling him at (703) 280-1672.
On September 20, the Multi-District Educational Program will take place at Kena Temple in Fairfax, VA, to discuss the following topics:
The District 1A Annual Picnic and Reunion will be held on Sunday, September 21, at 1:00 PM at Collingwood, near Mount Vernon. All Brethren (be they Entered Apprentices, Fellowcrafts or Master Masons) and their wives and children are invited and welcome to participate in the fellowship at this family event.
ANNOUNCEMENT: Officers will return to the black tuxedo uniform at the first Stated Communication on September 11.
