Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

October 2003

Master's Message

Brethren,

We have two very special Stated Communications this month. The first meeting will include a program entitled "Sacred Masonic Symbols in a Profane World" that has been assembled by a very close friend and brother of mine, Brother Robert B. Maynard, from Atlas Pythagoras Lodge No. 10, F. & A.M. of New Jersey. He has put together an interactive multimedia presentation showing various Masonic symbolism hidden "in plain sight" at locations both in America and Europe. Discussions on the meaning of these symbols, and the purposes by which they are used, will be encouraged during the program.

The second Stated Communication is our annual Past Masters' Night! We will hear a presentation by our Lodge Education Officer, Worshipful Brother Mark W. Underwood, P.M., on the Founders of the Grand Lodge of Virginia, in keeping with the Grand Master's proclamation for October being "Founders' Month". I will also be making a presentation on the upcoming resolutions that will be deliberated at the Grand Lodge Annual Communication in November. In addition, all Past Masters of Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22 are invited to attend a special dinner in their honor, served by the Officers at 6:30 PM. Refreshments for the brethren will be available following the meeting.

The evening of Saturday, October 11, will be our traditional Ladies' Night with the Officers and Members of William L. Elkins Lodge No. 271, F. & A.M. from the Grand Jurisdiction of Pennsylvania. The Hospitality Suite will be open at the Holiday Inn on 2460 Eisenhower Avenue from 1:00 to 5:00 PM. Tickets are available from all officers for $25 which covers the cost of the meal and entertainment that will take place at 6:00 PM in the main assembly hall of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Tours will be available following dinner, courtesy of the Memorial Association.

On Monday, October 20, Worshipful Brother W. Kirk MacNulty, P.M., will be making his third and final presentation in his trilogy of programs this year, entitled "The Meaning of the Master Mason Degree". Many of our candidates who were Entered Apprentices and Fellowcrafts earlier in 2003 have risen through the degrees and followed this esoteric and unique set of programs with great interest, and this should be an excellent supplement to their Blue Lodge education. All Master Masons are invited and welcome to attend.
