Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

July 2005

Master's Message

Brethren,

June has been a busy month for the Lodge. We held three Called Communications at which we initiated two candidates, passed one, and raised two more. It is wonderful to see these enthusiastic new Masons enter the Fraternity. Our future depends heavily on keeping these men motivated and involved. Please join us in Lodge and get to know the many new members.

At our first Stated Communication on the 14th Brother James C. Rees will receive the Community Builder Award on behalf of Historic Mount Vernon, this year's winner. The historic and traditional connection between Mount Vernon and Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22 is a long one, and this is a uniquely deserved award. Under the direction of Bro. Rees Mount Vernon is building a new visitors' center that will have a prominent display on Freemasonry and our Lodge. I cannot imagine a better setting to project this positive image of our fraternity.

Please note that we will also hold the election for the vacancy on the Scholarship Committee at this meeting. Nominations were held at the Stated on June 9th, and Brother Thomas Lee Ammazzalorso was nominated for the position.

The second Stated will feature a talk by Worshipful Jay Patterson, Master of Herndon Lodge No. 264. This is a talk you will not want to miss! Jay has been a member of the White House Press Corps for many years, and he will entertain us with many insights and stories he has experienced as a video photographer. Please mark your calendars for this one.

On the 23rd King Solomon's Lodge No. 346 will hold a tiled meeting in our room. This will be an excellent chance for those of you who would like to see Pennsylvania ritual to do so in the comfort of your own Lodge. Please join me as we host these visiting Brethren.

As you know, a large part of the financial support for our DeMolay Chapter comes from the annual Christmas tree sales program. Right Worshipful Jack Canard has been in charge of that program and will be again this year. However, the support of the tree lot from we Master Masons was dismal last year. Jack and a couple of others carried the burden. It was a success because of their hard work, and the Chapter made a handsome profit. We discussed the lack of support in Lodge in June and decided that we will not hold the sale again this year unless Jack can get enough individuals to pledge solid support to him so he can be sure of proper manning of the sales lot. He needs this commitment by the middle of August at which time we have to contract with the supplier of the trees. Please contact Jack or me if you are willing to make a firm commitment. I do not think it is an over statement to say that the future of the Chapter is in jeopardy absent the financial boost of the Christmas tree sale program. Please examine your cable tow. Thank you very much!

Advance Notice: On August 25th Right Worshipful Matt Szramoski will speak on the Traditions of Masonic Fellowship. This will also be our Bring a Friend and Bring a Mason Night. Plan now to invite and bring that man you would like to see in Lodge, whether he be a Mason who has not attended for awhile or a Profane who is interested in Freemasonry. Matt's talk will be open to all – profane, EA, FC, and MM.

Sincerely and fraternally,

Jesse T. McMahan
Worshipful Master
