Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

February 2006

Master's Message

Brethren,

Thanks to everyone who took part in our events last month. Before writing this months trestle board we had completed over half of last months events. We had a nice turnout of 17 brothers, ladies and children at our "First Friday AW" social event. We had 9 at our first Fraternal Visit, and 42 at our first Stated Communication.

This is another busy month for the members and friends of Alexandria-Washington Lodge. This month for the First Night AW social event we will go to Ireland's Four Provinces in Falls Church. We will meet at 7:30pm for dinner and entertainment. The performer that evening will be Brook Yoder, a singer/guitarist who's selections include traditional Irish folk favorites plus American folk and pop music.

We have two more Fraternal Visits this month. One to Skidmore Daylight Lodge No. 237 and the other to John Blair Lodge No. 187. For those of you who don't get out too much at night the visit to Skidmore Daylight Lodge would be a great opportunity to reconnect with some of the brethren and support your lodge at the same time.

At our first Stated Communication this month I will present a program on the "Rules of Civility". This is about the 110 precepts that guided our Illustrious Brother throughout his life. I have compared three books about George Washington's writing of these rules and have found in there pages many links to our own teachings.

At our second Stated Communication we will have a discussion of the newly released book about the Symbolism of the Blue Lodge Degrees. We will have a panel group of distinguished Masons that our Senior Warden has assembled. Please come out and support your lodge in these programs. As I hope you have noticed we will have dinner before each of our Stated Communications with refreshments after. If you can get here please come and enjoy the wonderful meals our Stewards are preparing this year. If you can't get here before the regular meeting time come anyway and we will keep everything set up so you can have ice cream, cookies, and fellowship with the brethren afterwards.

On Saturday, February 25th, the Grand Master will make his official visit to Alexandria- Washington Lodge No. 22. We will start our day with a wreath laying at Mt. Vernon followed by refreshments at Collingwood. That afternoon there will be a tour for our ladies starting with bus transportation at the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. At 4:00pm we will open a Master Mason's Lodge and receive Most Worshipful Glover Hunter Jones, III, Grand Master of Mason's in Virginia. This will be followed by a banquet with an excellent talk by the Director of Mt. Vernon, Br. Jim Reese. Let's show our support for the Lodge our Grand Master with an excellent turnout. Contact any of your Lodge Officers for advance tickets.

Sincerely and fraternally,

"Tom"
