Alexandria-Washington Lodge No. 22

April 2008

Master's Message

Brethren,

We have two wonderful speakers travelling to Alexandria to speak to us in April, and a number of degrees to confer on candidates.

At our first Stated Communication on April 10, Professor Emeritus David Stevenson of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland will discuss the topic "Freemasonry's Scottish Origins," based on his important book The Origins of Freemasonry: Scotland's Century, 1590-1710. At our second Stated Communication on April 24, we will celebrate the Lodge's traditional Charter Night by opening Lodge in the Replica Room. Professor Steven C. Bullock will discuss the topic "Freemasonry and the American Revolution," based on his famous work Revolutionary Brotherhood. Please join us for these two distinguished guests. There will be a Festive Board after both Stated Communications. Please reserve your space at the table by e-mailing the Senior Steward at dinner@aw22.com or by telephoning him at the number contained in this Trestleboard.

We will confer degrees on candidates at a Called Communication on Saturday, April 12. The plan is to begin at 10:00am, examine two candidates on their Entered Apprentice catechism, confer the Fellowcraft Degree on them, hear three other candidates return the Fellowcraft catechism, then break for lunch at noon. After lunch at 1:00pm, we plan to raise three candidates to the sublime degree of Master Mason. There will be a practice for these degrees at 6:00pm (note the earlier start time) on Friday, April 11.

On Tuesday, April 15, at 7:00pm we plan to raise a single candidate to the sublime degree of Master Mason with his father, who is also a Mason, in attendance from out of State. The line officers are performing ritual to a high degree of excellence this year and the catechism instructors and candidates are doing excellent work. I invite you to participate or assist as often and as much as you can.

Finally, remember that at 7:00pm on Friday, April 25, the Grand Master of Masons in Virginia, Most Worshipful Edmund Cohen, will make his official dinner visit to Masonic Districts 1A, 1B, and 54 in the Grand Masonic Hall of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial. Please contact the Secretary if you are interested in reserving one of the limited number of tickets that are still available for this event.

Brethren, we are blessed to have work to do and enlightening speakers this month. I look forward to seeing you in April.

Sincerely and Fraternally,
Douglas H. Wood
Worshipful Master
